rm6406 LIST

OTHER STUFF

BEST OF BOB’S LIST

  • Letters written in haste or anger should always be placed in your top desk drawer, and re-read in the morning.
  •

  • No good deed goes unpunished.
  •

  • The worst hour of your life is still only 60 minutes long.
  •

  • Procrastination is better than indifference.
  •

  • Birth is a terminal disease.
  •

  • The only logical result of anything, good or bad, is the end of it.
  •

  • Even a bad example can teach you something.
  •

  • Keep an open mind – it alerts you to your opponents’ weaknesses.
  •

  • Clean up the mess you have made before you make another one.
  •

  • Properly channeled, impatience is a virtue.
  •

  • It’s not the laps around the track, but the pit stops along the way, that lose the race.
  •

  • Hate just expends too damned much energy.
  •

  • Don’t be afraid to make money from your friends -- your enemies won’t do business with you anyhow.
  •

  • If your life sounds like a sad country song, change stations.
  •

  • Kansas is not flat, Iowa is.
  •

  • Surround yourself with smart people – they’re much more fun to argue with.
  •

  • You can’t do everything – face it.
  •

  • Negativity is essential only to electricity and physics -- period.
  •

  • Being alone and being lonely are absolute opposites.
  •

  • If you haven’t used it, worn it, or admired it for two years, get rid of it.
  •

  • The most important asset you can bestow to your loved ones is loyalty – especially when they’re wrong. That is when they need you the most.
  •

  • Don’t be afraid to cry, or laugh.
  •

  • Have great, outrageously expensive and lavish meals now and then – they’ll be wonderful memories if you end up in "the home".
  •

  • Recognize your weaknesses – but don’t dwell on them.
  •

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for advice -- it broadens your options.
  •

  • You are neither responsible nor in control of anyone else’s actions, inactions, or feelings -- nor they for yours.
  •

  • Dying is easy. Living is the hard part. Don’t be afraid of either one.
  •

  • Nothing is ever gone, as long as it lives in your heart and mind.
  •

  • If you make enough money to pay taxes, give it to the charity of your choice, if you have more than you need, SHARE.
  •

  • Don’t seek happiness at WalMart……or Neiman-Marcus. It’s not there to be purchased.
  •

  • There are no such things as failures, only results.
  •

  • Sometimes, a deep breath, a comfy chair and a stiff drink is the best plan.
  •

  • Always map out, in advance, the worst-case scenario. That way, the outcome is never as bad as you imagined it would be.
  •

  • Most people take better care of their cars than they do their bodies. Universal, accessible and affordable health care is the most important issue on this planet. Good health is too easy to take for granted, until it’s gone.
  •

  • Yesterday is just another stale headline. Tomorrow is a gift you may never receive. Today is all you’ve got. Live it.
  •

  • Religion is to faith as placebo is to serum.
  •

  • Listen to elderly people. They didn’t get old being stupid. Profit from their experience, and learn from their mistakes.
  •

  • Indulge yourself now and then – you deserve it, and sometimes, you’re the only one who notices.
  •

  • If you are too busy to share a moment with a friend or loved one, you’re too damned busy for your own good. Reassess your priorities.
  •

  • There are no atheists in a delivery room, or a foxhole.
  •

  • I’d rather be lucky than good.
  •

Can't disagree with a single one of those statements! If we lived them life would be better. One of my favorites is simply, "This too shall pass." A few from rm's list express a similar sentiment.

A dear friend states her life philosophy as:
1. clean up under the bed
2. brush the backs of your teeth
3. this too shall pass
And, I've always thought she had it just about right because IF we're careful about all the details especially those we think most people might not see or know, keep our bodies maintained AND realize how fleeting most everything really is, well, we're onto something that leaves us open to the joys of life and able to handle the less than joyful.

Does this mean rm is still around? I always enjoy reading him, even when he is WRONG (giggle). He disagrees in such an agreeable manner. But haven't seen or heard anything from him for awhile so wondered.

Linda, rm is still around. He's been away from his computer for a while, but we should be hearing from him again shortly.

His ability to disagree agreeably is a product of his background and professional training. I think there are points in his list which give a clue to this. Hopefully, I'll be able to display the same grace when I find myself disagreeing with others; I've been working on this for a long time.

Good morning, everyone! And happy Friday!

I like rm's list, too. Lots of wisdom. I should print it and add it to my bulletin board as a reminder.

My mottos?
1. Don't sweat the small stuff.
2. Pick your battles wisely.

Not that I always follow them, but when the kids were growing up, I had to learn #2 the hard way.

LOL VT. You're probably right about everything being the small stuff. In the grand scheme of things, for sure.

The one thing I learned from my ex's grandmother was that worry solves nothing. She spent a lot of time worrying. I've done the same, at times, but I'm trying to learn to be more conscious of it and stop myself. OTOH, constructive thinking and planning (if possible) can go a long way in solving problems that arise. And they sure do that!
