Hoping that anyone reading here who might be or have family or friends in the Greensburg area are all OK. Sounds like the weather types are concerned there could be a recurrence of this bad weather a bit closer to us today/tonight.

VT, we went through an F3 'nado here in Parsons, right around this time of year.
2000 or 2001, I forget.
3/4 of the houses on the block directly across the street just dissapeared in a matter of seconds.
Miraculously nobody killed.
I have an old house and a little storm cellar under the kitchen that we hid in.
I really wasn't worried until I had to hold the door shut, and.....MY EARS POPPED!
When the ears pop, hit the deck!~

Tracy, I remember hearing about the Parsons tornado. In fact, I think I went through Parsons sometime in June and saw some of the destruction. Long story that I won't go into, but I know I went through one of the towns in that area in 2000 that had been hit.
The Andover tornado did a lot of damage on its path that started down near the Medicine Lodge area. A friend's parents' home was hit near Clearwater. If it hadn't been for the Ninnescah, Clearwater would have been hit hard. As it was, when the tornado crossed the river, it altered the path just enough to miss the town by a few miles.
I'm getting ready to go get a new flash/jump drive. My grandson did a number on my other one, and with storms coming, I absolutely must back up a few computer things.
Stay safe, my friends. This is CYA time.

Tracy, I was through Parsons several times that summer after the tornado you mention. We always went through Parsons back then to get to my Mother's house in Shell Knob. Now we take 300 more often. It was horrible and a blessing that no one was killed.
I'll remember that ear popping hint too.

Yeah, Tracy, the ear popping hint is likely better than my current practice of standing on the front stoop and not going to shelter until I see the debris field within 50 feet....

That highway should have read 400 but I suppose you already knew what I should have typed. It's still a drive I hate to make. Seems like such a long trip. But my Mom is at the end so it's one we make often.

I hadn't listened to news all day until now. No radio, no television, no checking out online news. I'm shocked and sadddened by the destruction of last night. Nine people dead, 76 who were treated at Pratt's hospital, 14 of those still hospitalized. Other patients in hospitals in Dodge City, Hutchinson, Wichita. Miles and miles of homes destroyed, livestock dead and gone. Sad day. Sadder is that storms are headed straight for those areas again.

Anyway
You can spend your whole life building something from nothing. One storm can come and blow it all away.
Build it anyway.
You can chase a dream that seems so out of reach and you know it might not ever come your way.
Dream it anyway.
God is great, but sometimes life ain’t good. And when I pray it doesn’t always turn out like I think it should.
But I do it anyway.
This world’s gone crazy and it’s hard to believe that tomorrow will be better than today.
Believe it anyway.
You can love someone with all your heart, for all the right reasons, and in a moment they can choose to walk away.
Love ‘em anyway
You can pour your soul out singing a song you believe in- that tomorrow they’ll forget you ever sang.
Sing it anyway.
I sing, I dream, I love, anyway

There is great sadness today in Kansas, but also great pride as our community once again rises to the test and reaches out to those affected by the killer tornado.
