Beer, huh? Could we start out with coffee? I switched in recent months from the Folger's I had used for more years than I can remember to Maxwell House. Better! Cheaper! My, that's a winning scenario.

Trace, It's just you and me, kid.

I haven't read all you posted. In fact, I'm behind on The Red Pearl so need to back up.

Except that it would scare the neighbors I would walk the dog in a swimsuit. Maybe a rain suit would be better for this um, er, BIG BONED (that's it, big boned) woman.

I've caught glimpses of my big cat between the scary sounds coming from the sky. He is such a cool cat and it's hard to walk & look cool when your knees are shaking so he hangs out under the bed, behind the drapes...

I have a full day. Need to visit the grocery store, have a few loads of laudry to catch up, pay a few bills, change the bed... The unexciting days of being a bum. My kind of life!

Hi lady!
I just got a nice note from Sandra S.
So I guess she didn't get tornadoed.
I sent a link.
Just you and me is fine, but more are welcome.
As long as we don't get nutballs and wingers!
Okay enough of that, back to work for us.

"Four soldiers from Fort Riley and a reserve police officer were arrested Sunday on suspicion of looting cigarettes and alcohol from a store in this tornado-ravaged town, state officials said. The soldiers weren't assigned to help in Greensburg, but police had allowed them to move freely because they were in uniform, said Sharon Watson, a spokeswoman for the Kansas adjutant general's office."

I heard this on KSN yesterday while watching the weather. There's more from the article, too.

"The governor said the state's response was limited by the shifting of emergency equipment, such as tents, trucks and semitrailers, to the war in Iraq.

"Not having the National Guard equipment, which used to be positioned in various parts of the state, to bring in immediately is really going to handicap this effort to rebuild," Sebelius said.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency was bringing in travel trailers to house some of the town's residents."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070507/ap_on_re_us/se...

Someone on the other blog posted that they knew the minister of one of the churches in Greensburg. The poster said God was watching over the church and the people. And I wondered just where God was when that tornado hit. On a coffee break? So it finally dawned on me that Mother Nature trumps God.

(Take the above as tongue-in-cheek...or not. Your choice. No harm intended, either way.)

I have the television on and they are showing us bush greeting and welcoming The Queen to the White House. Wouldn't it be an improvement if this jerk could even pretend to act like a human being!?? Or have any idea of proper behavior? What an embarrassment!

What excuses would the trouble-making soldier have for these fine examples of manhood? Oh, that they're Democrats and all that. I think too many who actually VOLUNTEER to kill people might be jerks like these caught looting! At minimum the one I mention does an extremely poor job of representing what I think America stands for.

You know none of that equipment is returning to Kansas, don't you? Much is already useless and it will be left (thanks to bush's war of choice) in the burned out cities, highways and byways of Iraq. Last I heard none of the states had been reimbursed -- just raped like all the little people while bushco makes sure the haves and have mores are taken care of.

Rox, I agree.
I have the same problem with the old platitude:
Everything happens for a reason.
God works in mysterious ways, bla bla.

So according to asshat TV preachers, them there people in Greensburg musta been eeeee-ville.
Oh, that was NOLA. Same difference.
And those poor schmucks in Indonesia STILL think that the tsunami was God's wrath.
That ain't the god I know.

A cynical comment on the soldiers, et al, arrested for looting in Greensburg.

They knew no one would stop anyone in uniform, as it would be presumed they were there to assist in the search and rescue and clean up missions. So, they drive on down, hit the Dillons (the article I read said "grocery store", and that's the only one in town, IIRC) to pick up the cigarettes and "liquor" (likely beer) to take back to Ft. Riley. I suspect the rest of the plan involved sales of this contraband to their fellow soldiers, likely at times when the PX was closed. Entrepenurship at its finest - NOT!

bush's war of choice and the relaxing of standards in order to provide his war with soldiers. You get those who "use" what should be honored for what isn't honorable.

(duplicate post) Good news from Greensburg. cnn.com reports, in breaking news, an AP report that a survivor has been found in the rubble.

Oh, that's excellent news! I hadn't heard anything but am well pleased. There was a mention in this morning's newspaper of 10 dead. I had always heard 9 so wonder if that was a typo or an update? Also mentioned a number in the same article of "missing." Some of those may be in other places safe and sound -- sounds like there is some problem getting accurate info on where everyone might be.

Apparently, the necessary but not always pleasant job of ascertaining survivors, etc., is hampered a bit by the fact that there are those who did not go to any shelter after the storm, but who went with family in the area. I suspect after today's visits, there will be progress made, given the sign in requirement, on who is still not accounted for from the storm.

I was hoping it was a typo, didn't know Saturday's storms had claimed a life.

Here is the president of the U.S. making an ass of himself in front of The Queen. Is it too much to ask that the person who heads our government be able to speak a few sentences in public in a way that makes anyone think he has a brain?

Tracy, Thank you! You sent a request to be added as a friend, all I had to do was click on a link and it was a done deal! One down... I suppose I still need to figure that part out.

So, you don't think it's a little strange that someone paint's rocks?

I also just went to your blog and up at the top is a green cross. I clicked on it, and it added you to my site. I think the only real advantage is the shoutbox.
In the shoutbox, only 'friends' get to read what is written. You CANNOT erase anything you post there.

I pick up rocks, or did.
I sold 40 tons to a local constuction firm and they used them on the front of a new building.
I also pick up any interesting rocks, and gave a whole bunch of nice smooth, hand sized river rocks to our church to be painted on.

Time passes by so........... quickly. I have gotten so old that now I only drink light beer, unless I am just sampling a micro-brew. Ten plus years ago, I used to like to hit Old Chicago or a good quality liquor store to sample an unusual beer. I guess the micro-brew craze has kind of passed, but it was always fun to try something totally new and decidedly different.

As for beer - God created beer to keep the Irish from ruling the world.

I am part Irish.

Hey, I just talked to rm64 on the phone.
He should be here to comment soon, or I sent him a link anyway.
I've been almost 10 years without a drink.
A good cold micro-brewed wheat beer still sounds great.
Irish?
I remeber when I was trying to sober up, an Irish friend of mine said to stay away from AA, cause it was a goddamned conspiracy to bring down Ireland.
HA!

Linda, about coffee.
If it isn't arabica coffee beans, I don't care much for it.
Robusto is the only other kind.
It's a little more 'earthy', and has more caffiene.
From wiki:
Coffea arabica is a species of coffee indigenous to Ethiopia. It is also known as the "coffee shrub of Arabia", "mountain coffee" or "arabica coffee". Coffea arabica is believed to be the first species of coffee to be cultivated, being grown in southwest Arabia for well over 1,000 years. It is considered to produce better coffee than the other major commercially grown coffee species, Coffea canephora (robusta). Arabica contains less caffeine than any other commercially cultivated species of coffee. Wild plants grow to between 7-12 m tall, and have an open branching system; the leaves are opposite, simple elliptic-ovate to oblong, 6-12 cm long and 4-8 cm broad, glossy dark green. The flowers are produced in axillary clusters, each flower white, and 1-1.5 cm diameter. The fruit is a berry 10-15 mm long, maturing bright red to purple, containing two seeds (the coffee 'bean').

Ah, microbrews. My favorite microbrew of all time (well, up to now) was one obtainable only within the southern part of the great state of Minnesota. The name of the brewery was "Pig's Eye", after the original name of St. Paul. I do not recall the precise brew sampled, as it was on tap at the Rubenstein in Northfield, and carried on the menu as "Pig's Eye", but it was superb. Not dark in color, but smooth, flavorful, and otherwise reminiscent of a dark beer. Alas, the next year, went to the "Rube" to have another, and was told bankruptcy had struck. I mourn to this day.

I'm not a conniseur of beer. It's not my drink of choice so haven't spent much time discerning the differences. When I do have a beer I usually put tomato juice in it so I'm guessing the cheapest is what I should order (since I mess it up anyway, huh?).

Are there enough of us to build an ark? Could come in handy! Let's not even pretend we're gonna take two of everything. Especially those things that like to eat people. All of us, couple of kegs, some board games, decks of cards. What else?

Linda, just use Natty Light or something equally obnoxious if you're going to put tomato juice in it. :-(

Happy Monday........... The weather certainly has lived up to its reputation lately, not to mention making things quite dreary over the last several days. Let's hope that the storms stay away for a week or so.

I spent a few minutes over on WE Blog today - more nonsense from Nathan and his Daddy, asserting their right to try to scare liberals with their big, nasty, throbbing guns.

What is it that they say about little boys and their toys?

My father is 91, a hard right winger and we are growing further and further apart, just as his need for my assistance grows greater and greater.

It is enough to drive me over the edge.

To give you an example, my father feels that if everyone "knows" that someone is guilty of murder, "they" should just take them out and shoot them. This is not a knee jerk reaction, this is how this so-called committed Christian feels.

Anyway, I occasionally "correct" the forwarded e-mail stories he sends me - you know, the right wing garbage about yada, yada, Bush is loved by the world and everyone hates liberals, the Qu'uran says in Chapter 9, Verse 11.........

This has no become a source of contention between us. Being the dutiful son (of a bitch) that I am, I have asked him to Snopes his e-mails before he sends them off. No such luck. He continues to think that John Kerry was a coward and George W Bush was a war hero.

I would pass it all off as the rantings of an old man, but he fails to understand that the folks that send him this stuff in the first place are just playing him.

Oh, well.................

tehe

My husband who has decided he is a Republican (one of the best kind since he doesn't vote (giggle)) thinks electric bleachers is the way to go -- chairs are too slow. He has read what the Republican party says it stands for and doesn't even realize this administration doesn't resemble that in any way.

He thinks ALL Muslims are evil, out to kill Americans (their sole goal in life), believes all those crazy emails about what the Qur'an says. Doesn't listen to the possibility of "radicals" in this and all groups of people. Finds what he wants to support what he thinks and sticks with it.

He can come up with some of the most unbelievable excuses for bushco -- mostly nowadays they are just put downs of ALL politicians. I quit trying to tell him they are a particularly bad part of a group that haven't inspired great confidence.

Since he has himself convinced Muslims are evil and bush FINALLY did something about a problem everyone else had ignored he can't quite let himself believe his brave man is as much an idiot as he appears to be.

We don't talk politics often! Bet you can tell why?

Guess we ALL have our crosses to bear. Sure good to have friends!
