OK, now you guys are pissing me off.
I havent had a DROP of rain in over a month. No kidding. I noticed yesterday the wheat is getting brown around the bottom leaves. A sure sign of damage from lack of rain. We had great rain and snows this winter, but we still need some spring rain.
Could you all send a LITTLE of the rain my way?
And, btw, my lawn STILL looks like hell, even with no rain.

LH, I'd love to send rain your way, along with some to the West coast and East. I have a friend in Florida (up near St. Augustine) who is literally sick because of the smoke drifting down from fires in Georgia. Farther south in Florida, they've also been dealing with drought, but they finally did get a little rainfall this past week.
But of course there's no such thing as climate change. (imagine eye-rolling smiley here)
Okay, everybody, take a deep breath and BLOW the rain in a northwesterly direction, focusing on LH's location. (I'd add a grin, but I'm almost half serious about this and it isn't funny.)

Take a vacation.
Come to SEK and camp out at Big Hill reservoir.
That'll just about gaurantee rain here.
The Neosho river, which dumps into Grand lake in Oklahoma, crested 5ft above flood.

I just got back inside from changing water in the gardens and feeding, watering, and opening the chicken house windows for the little ones so they dont roast in their tiny feathers.
It's not working Rox, blow harder :)
Even the cats are sleeping in the shade instead of the sun. I think they might have the right idea. And I do have beer and ice here. heheheheheehhe!
Sigh. Farming is such a hard life...

Tracy, I'd love a vacation. But this is almost the peak of high farming season. Harvest is about a month away, if it rains soon. Then the garden full tilt boogie and farmers markets start right after harvest. Then the canning and freezing, the fall garden crops, final mowings, the chicken killing, the tool cleaning and storage....
Looking for that beer again just thinking about it :) Eat drink and be merry today. Tomorrow will just be another day behind the shovel or mower. Today? Beer City!

Oh, and along with the beer....
Did I mention the porterhouses I picked up on sale last week? I have fresh kohlrabi in purple and white, perfect heads of broccoli, perfect heads of cauliflower, so white they actually SPARKLED when picked, radishes, greens of all kinds, and lettuce.
Guess I better call some friends. I'm just suffering with comfort!

Rox, St. Augustine is the home town of Tee Corrine! One of my favorite artists and writers. I read recently that she passed away. :( I hope she and Molly are having a good time.

Dang it, Grrl, I am trying to diet a little bit after my massive twenty pound weight gain after quiting smoking.
Tonight's menu? Baked potato and salad. Tomorrow? Boneless pork chops, vegetables and SALAD.
I am feeling a bit rabbit-like.
Asparagus, grilled and buttered - I could make a meal out of that. Add a Porterhouse. Great. How about a couple ears of corn on the cob? Wonderful. How about a whole mess of vegetables, wrapped in foil, grilled right on the coals. Fantastic. Ah, ya have to have some dessert! Maybe an apple pie. Sounds good! Maybe a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream? Just a little scoop, for the taste. Oh, all right!
Yeah. That's how I ended up gaining twenty!
I am blaming it on you, Grrl. That is my story and I am sticking with it.

St. Augustine was my dad's favorite city.
I hope no one minds if I rant, but my daughter and I just got back from trying to attend the concert at the (former) West Bank Stage. We parked south of the old Henry's building (SRS parking) and walked to the concert area. At the gate, they asked to check our purses. No cameras allowed, and because my daughter had hers in her purse from earlier in the day, we were told we would couldn't attend until we got rid of it. Oh, please. I didn't even bother to ask if cell phones were banned. Mine has a camera as do most these days. I also had tucked my MP3 player into my purse, and it has a voice record on it.
What am I going to do with pictures? Where's the harm in that?
Wichita Festivals won't get my $5 next year for a button--which I think is highly overpriced anyway. The concert was really the only reason I bought one this year. (And I bought three!)
Call me disgruntled.

Rox, sorry you had a bad experience. It really bums to get excited about something and then get rousted. Coulda been a terra ist camara ya know :)
Clark, heheheeh! I mostly eat the veggies raw these days since they are so good and sweet and tender. I did steam the broccoli and grill the asperagus. Oh yeah, and I cooked the taters too!
I'll take the blame for your weight loss if you take the blame for my wild and crazy hair? I'm living like a wild animal these days, or I guess you could say I'm living like a "bachelor Norwegian farmer". No time to do dishes, laundry, cooking, etc. I'm living on cold sandwiches and cereal because they are cold and wet and dont require any time.
I still have 100 percent survivors with my little chickens. And I found a new batch of kittens in the garage yesterday (big eye roll here). The carrots are up, the beets are up, and even some peanuts came up!
Now if the chickens and garden were more fertile and the cats a little LESS fertile...

lh, there is a chance, albeit small, that you might get some rain this evening/overnight. I'll join in the "blowing" to get some your way.
On grass. Yesterday, as I was out on the grill, doing brats, onions, and corn, a juvenile rabbit was enjoying itself in the grass behind the neighbor's patio. We sat there, I minding the grill, it having some lunch, for a good half hour. All I could see of it was the ears, poking up (barely) above the tops of the grass. Our bucolic idyll came to an end when the brats, etc. were done, which required me to move and take them in for dinner. Sure enough, as I looked up, having opened the lid of the grill, the rabbit was leaving.
