THE BOTTOM LINE FOR PEACE

MY OPINIONS

THE REAL ROADMAP TO PEACE ~ (CONDENSED VERSION)

  1. Real lobbyist reform. There will always be war while corporations run our government(s).
  2. Let Iraq govern themselves as they see fit.
  3. Give the Palestinians an unhindered, viable state.
  4. Move the bulk of our troops back to Afghanistan, the real terrorists will come to us.
  5. Persuade our corporations to invest more in poor Islamic countries, Indonesia will do.
  6. Sponsor worldwide "micro-banking", empowering the people to create better conditions.
  7. Give the Kurds in northern Iraq their own state. Rather, recognize the one that already exists.

   8.      IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN YOU NEED….SHARE.

Tracy, laudable thoughts. Now, I'm going to be a bit of a wet blanket on number 7 of your list. To allow the Kurds their own independent state in northern Iraq will exacerbate issues with Turkey and its Kurdish population. Turkey is a NATO ally, which might enmesh us in armed conflict with the Kurds or the Turks.

Yeah, I know it's all pretty quixotic.
But the fact is that they are the only region of Iraq that is functioning.
All by themselves.

Tracy, I believe the reason the Kurds are functioning lies in the fact that after the "no fly" zones were established after Gulf War I, Saddam left them alone. This resulted in their establishing a more or less autonomous region which was extant for some 10 to 11 years before the invasion. As the IV ID was prohibited in traversing Turkey as part of the invasion, this left the Kurds out of much of the fighting, again allowing it to recover and flourish economically much faster than the rest of the country. My two cents.

And I think it's great!
We give TONS of money to Turkey.
They have nothing to fear from an autonomous Kurdish state.
For christs sake all you 'free world' leaders,
it's your dream isn't it?
A self-sustaining grass-roots democracy,
and we don't support autonomy?
More senseless foreign policy.
