DUST OFF YOUR BICYCLE

CURRENT EVENTS

I absolutely had to get gasoline a little while ago,

or risk walking.

Much to my surprise, my usual stop was out of gas. Hmmmm.........

The SECOND station I went to was also OUT!

Ahhhhh..............FINALLY,

the third station was up and pumping.

I had to wait in line for quite some time,

just to pay $3.49 per gallon

FOR REGULAR!!!!

Didn't this same thing happen thirty years ago,

more or less?

It wasn't THIS high in the 70s, was it? I remember the shortages and higher prices, but isn't this worse? They say memory is the first to go.

Linda, adjusted for inflation, I think the current price has just now exceeded that of the 70s. Now, if we're talking $X then and $3.49 (in Tracy's example) now, we've been over $X for a substantial time. BTW, y'all here in ICT, the retail price of gas rose to $3.29/gal for unleaded regular this a.m., if you've not been out.

Tracy, you have my sympathy. Truly. I thought $3.19 was more than outrageous, but $3.49? There aren't words to express my total disgust with this.

With the price of higher fuel, the price of everything else goes up. People on fixed incomes might as well dig a hole and live in it. Maybe the ultra rich can toss in a few crumbs, now and then.

Is this Bush's fine culture of life?

He promised the haves and the have mores. So, I guess there would be that one thing positive I could say about him -- he kept the promise.

GAG!

We live on the near west side (barely west of Tyler), but Wayne works at Webb & Central so it's a LOT of driving. I don't think he can walk or ride a bike and his hours are so crazy (salaried people work 'till the work is done OR they are!), I'm not sure a bus would be possible even if he were so inclined.

Linda, the bus would not be a possibility given his uncertain end of the day hours. I'm not sure it's a possibility anyway, given your residence location, would have to look at the route map.

Is there a law in the United States that says that milk has to be the same price per gallon as gasoline? Just curious.

I just got back from the grocery store. I was shocked at the prices. They have been steadily going up. Now, even the sales are not much of a deal.

I used to do my shopping by hitting the meat department, seeing what was on sale, and building my menus around that. It is getting to the point that is out of the question. We went to having one vegetarian meal per week for cost and health reasons - it is looking like we will need to step that up. Of course, vegetables for salads are ridiculously priced as well.

We may have to eat the cats - cat food is ridiculously high priced now, after the Killer Chinese Cat Food disaster. Basic Purina is nearly $4.50 for a 3.5# bag.

And of course, if you feed them, the little bastards just turn around and deposit it in the kitty box. At these prices, they need to "hold on" to it for a little while.

Oh, well, the wallet is looking a bit bleak these days, so I am a little whiny.

If I keep up the whining, someone might accuse me of being a Republican, so I'd better cut it out.

As I was making some snide comments about our cats, the big black male one jumped up on the desk and stole my hair tie right out from under my nose.

(I have more hair than God - all of it mine.)

Duke is part raccoon. I shoot my old ties across the kitchen floor, he retrieves them and brings them back - usually. Sometimes, he stops and drops them in his water dish to play with for a while before he brings them back to me. That's what he is doing right now. He also drops them down the heating/cooling vents.

Duke is a twenty pounder, all black, but part Siamese. Fortunately for me, I speak cat, so talking to him or understanding him is not a problem.

When I am reincarnated, I want to come back as a male cat.

What a life!

WSC, if I remember correctly...
In Carlos Castenada's book series, The Teachings Of Don Juan-A Yaqui Way of Life, Don Juan and Don Genaro were both to be reincarnated as some type of South american Beetle, as they saw that as one of the most perfect life forms.

Will, do you have the look of Willie Nelson? an old hippie? a mountaineer? a grizzly adams / jim bridger type? Interesting! My hubby has that look except ALAS on his head. But how neat that you always have a cat toy handy! I love my cats but they are less playful than they were. My big cat used to fetch too, but no longer. I don't know whether he quit because he wanted to or I allowed it by stopping the play some time along the way. I speask cat too! I can even do the trilling.

Once when my youngest was very small he gave me a big hug and then remarked at the satisfied noise I made due to the hug, "She purrs."

Heheheeheh Y'all.

Clark, you need to come back as one of MY male cats. We call him "big" which is short for big daddy, as all the kittens look like him. He's a big hunter too.

One day in the dead of winter this year I went looking for wire in an old shack we call the blacksmith shop, which it was, but now we just store fencing stuff in it.

I noticed "big" jumped through the broken window space when I opened the door, and he was staring at me when I walked in. I looked to the right, on a six foot high shelf, and low and behold...

There was a dead rabbit stuffed there. I know that rabbit didnt jump up on that high shelf and die. Big had killed him and then put him in "cold storage" so he, or one of his harem, could eat it later. Hell, maybe he had "dinner and date" plans for all I know.

I just said "you go boy" and he looked quite pleased with himself when I walked out.

The rabbit was gone on the next visit, and big never said a word about where it went. Just that Cheshire grin.

Oh, and I dont speak cat, just a little dog and some german and spanish. Heheheheh. But the kitties never seem to have a problem communicating their needs and wants to the big mama.

My chickens live in mortal fear of big and his posse. Any cat who has his fresh kill in cold storage would not find a tightly sealed chicken house to be an impediment to dinner.

I patrol daily with my screw gun...

heheheh! yer pretty funny too Linda!

...and is it just me and my post-menopausal eyes, or does anyone else find this white on black format difficult? I read the white print just fine, but frequently fail to see the comment button or nic names.

Oh well. It's probably just me. Ya know, some folks would bitch if they were hung with a new rope.

Funny stories, y'all. When I was a kid, we had a big tabby that would bring field mice home. My a'mother would let Tiger in and he would have a live mouse for her. One day, I heard a commotion outside the garage. Tiger had leaped on the back of a large gull and was riding it rodeo style. Hilarious. Cats are such funny people.

I love dogs the most, but I am still not ready to have another after losing my Rocky a year ago.

As for my look? A few years ago, my friends used to call me Willie, as in Nelson. I cut my hair in early 2005 (drunken response to Bush II inauguration) but now it is growing back to shoulder length. My hair is so thick and unruly that I have to have it very long or very short. Anything in between is a disaster.

I look like a cross between Woodstock, Easy Rider and Helter Skelter, with a touch of Last of the Mohican's.

I wouldn't have a problem being reincarnated as a South American Beatle (I love Latino women) but a SA beetle? With my luck, a big black bird would have me for dinner!

I my granddaughter stopped by for a few minutes this morning - my day is made! The little stinker is getting browner by the minute - a perfect little complexion, golden brown, big brown eyes and jet black hair - a cute little Indian girl.

Ah, do ya think I might be a little biased!!!

Catch y'all later - the laundry is calling to me!!!

LH, you're not the first one to complain about the black background. I needa get that changed. I'm over at dad's right now and his machine is set to display white background.
Okay, back on topic.
We are a dog family. Our youngest daughter Adeline Canine, lives in the house with us. We picked her up as a stray, out at our church which is on the edge of town. She was just a wormy little mutt. Now a wonderful family member. If you cry, she licks up your tears. If you yell, she HIDES.
If you say frisbee....well you better go throw the damned thing or you'll be sorry, she'll nag you.
She's our friend and protector. Not a mean bone in her body, but when we left for a weekend and wanted a friend to feed her? NO WAY! Even though Addie knew these people, she would not let them in the door!

We did have an enjoyable black and white stray cat when I was a teenager. He followed a family friend into our house and just stayed. We named him Stanley, in honor of the friend who accidentaly let him into the house.
