Howard on the WARPATH

CURRENT EVENTS

Dear Tracy,

It reads like a Bush Administration Hall of Shame: Paul Wolfowitz, Michael Brown, Donald Rumsfeld, Scooter Libby.

Now Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may become the latest Administration official to leave office in disgrace.

America deserves better than what George Bush has given us.

Democrats in the House and Senate are busy holding Alberto Gonzales and the rest of his cronies accountable for seven years of failed leadership. They're ready to cast a vote of no-confidence after years of the Bush Administration abusing its power.

Cast your own vote of no-confidence in the Bush Administration and make sure Democrats take back the White House in 2008:

Just yesterday, the president stood by the Attorney General for his roll in the U.S. Attorney firings:

"He has got my confidence. He has done nothing wrong. There's been enormous amount of attention on him, that there has been no wrongdoing on his part. [...] I stand by Al Gonzales, and I would hope that people would."

Americans want action, and that's what Democrats are delivering. House Democrats Adam Schiff and Artur Davis introduced a resolution yesterday calling for Gonzales' removal, stating that he failed to "assure the public that the laws of the nation are being enforced in an independent, nonpartisan and judicious manner."

As Republican Senator Arlen Specter said Sunday, Congress's response is "a very forceful, historical statement" -- not the "meaningless political act" the White House would like Americans to believe.

It's time for that to change, and that will only happen if we put a Democrat in the White House. Help put an end to the failed Republican leadership once and for all:

Sincerely,

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

The "no confidence" resolution, should it pass, isn't going to help IMHO. There is an impeachment process that can be used to finally rid the government of AG AG, should that be desired. If the votes aren't there, then don't waste the time, to be sure.

A final thought: are we better off with the devil we know compared to a new devil we don't?

I think the No Confidence resolution is to appease we, the people. Not that it's going to work for many, but some will buy into it.

It seems Gonzo was the devil we got to replace Ashcroft, who, looking back, might not have been as bad as we thought. But come on, putting drapes over sculptures?

And speaking of anatomically correct art...
A friend was telling me last night that when she was involved in PTA some years ago as part of the board, they received a letter warning about the religious right. "Dominionism," I told her. But it was a surprise that it had been noticed so many years ago.

Kinda reminds me of the absolutely gorgeous Georgia O'Keefe print the middle school where my wife is employed received some years ago. It was prominently displayed in the main hall, until some parent with more time than most started a petition drive to have it destroyed. It now hangs in the office, away from the tender eyes of the students so they won't be corrupted.
