Haven't seen the documentary, and will try to rent it soon.

Thinking about the electric car, and the thread below about coal led me to wonder if adopting the electric car, with its accompanying needs for electrical generation, might not, in the short term at least, result in greater demand for coal fired generating plants with all that entails. Perhaps long term, enough wind, solar, etc. generation might be possible, but short term, it seems coal would be the favored method for additional generation. Nuclear has its place in this discussion, to be sure, but there are many issues surrounding it as well.

I hope you'll excuse my rant, but something caught my eye in the news.

Here's the lead-in to the article:

"VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI held the hands of the parents of 4-year-old Madeleine McCann on Wednesday, blessing them and a photo of the girl as they asked for prayers for their daughter who disappeared while on a family vacation in Portugal."

And here's the part in the article that caught my eye:

"Madeleine McCann disappeared May 3 when her parents left her and her 2-year-old twin siblings alone in their hotel room while they went to a restaurant in their hotel complex in Praia da Luz, a resort town in Portugal's Algarve region. Gerry and Kate McCann have said they won't return to Britain without their daughter."

HER PARENTS LEFT HER AND HER 2-YEAR-OLD TWIN SIBLINGS ALONE IN THEIR HOTEL ROOM WHILE THEY WENT TO A RESTAURANT IN THEIR HOTEL COMPLEX...

Am I the only person who sees something wrong?

Why are the parents not in jail or at least charged with child endangerment? Me thinks there is more to the story than we know.

Or as the Pope for forgiveness for endangering their children?

Okay, I admit I was always overly cautious about leaving my kids anywhere, even at home for twenty minutes. I wouldn't do it. But, hey, we lived in the middle of nowhere and closet neighbor was 1/4 miles away, and I could imagine something like the house blowing up while they were sleeping. Forget what they could do while awake. I know parents who are the complete opposite.

Perhaps in Portugal there are no child endangerment laws, so the McCanns decided to go with the "while in Rome..." thing?

Makes me wonder where those 2-year-old twins are while mom and dad are visiting the Pope.
