PEACE OF MIND

OTHER STUFF

There is something about meditation that helped me, almost like it 'rewired' my brain!

I started like this.... I imagined an 8 track tape, playing all this drama and negativity over and over. So once a day, 20 minutes, I go to a quiet place and start with a mental relaxation exercise to get my body relaxed. Then I work on the real problem, relaxing my mind.

I know it sounds like an exercise in futility, and it first it is.
Here's what I do.
Imagine the stupid tape playing those personal dramas endlessly.
Now imagine that every thought (drama) can be rewound back onto the tape.
Every time a negative thought slips through, STOP THE TAPE. Rewind it and don't let it play that thought.
You can't do that without thinking of something else, something simple.
A mantra.
Not a Hindu mantra, but a mantra. Anything.
Start with two words, in conjunction with your breath. IN....OUT. Concentrate on only your breathing, and your mantra.
Your brain actually physically responds to this. You've probably seen something on TV about the "God area" in your brain, it is stimulated to activity during prayer/meditation, and releases the 'feel good' endorphins in the brain. After some practice, I am able to control my thoughts, and can actually feel the "Godspot" kick in.
Remember, 20-30 minutes is a lot for a beginner.
If you can not get relaxed and in the groove, don't fight it.
Go back to your day, and try later.
Once you get the hang of it, change your mantra to something meaningful to you.
If this whole thing seems wierd and/or embarrasing....
DON'T TELL.
You are a beginner.
You do not have to sit like a Buddha, or be really disciplined.
Tell others that you need to 'rest your eyes'.
JUST TRY IT!!!!

Leading up to and during my divorce, I found the perfect frustration (and anger) tool. I imagined whacking my ex in the head with a baseball bat, complete with the feel of the whack and the sound of it. It worked great!

But I wondered if it was wrong, so I asked a counselor I was seeing, and he said that as long as I didn't actually DO the act, but only imagined it, I was okay. In fact, it was mentally healthy.

Tracy, the mind is a powerful thing. It can make us sick and, in some cases, can make us healthy. I like your exercise above. If relaxing is a problem, try one of the sound machines that has white noise, ocean waves, rain, etc, or whatever sound is the most soothing. For a long time, I had to use a technique to relax enough to fall asleep. Except for very rare occasions, I don't need it anymore. I'll be happy to share, if anyone is interested.

Oh, and I have a hiccup cure, too, and people who swear it works. >g<

Support groups are wonderful, but in the end, we are all left to work out our own versions of salvation.

Way back when I was in the baby making business I took a course in natural childbirth. The relaxation techniques learned there have served me through other times of tension and pain, both physical and emotional. Our minds are powerful as Rox said.

I love you guys! I can come here and find a handful of people who always have something interesting to talk about, who fascinate me, people I would love to spend time listening to their life experiences. Ya know, I feel very lucky and blessed to have found you! Tracy, Rox, Vaughn, Julie, Will, rm (ALL!) if you ever decide to quit blogging please keep in touch another way - you are important people to ME!

In today's competetive world the biggest culprit affecting people of all ages is stress. This in turn has deprived many, of their Peace of mind. Anger, pride, envy, ego has made our beautiful motherland a very difficult place to live in.
Meditation is one of the sureshot remedies to correct these maladies. Meditate, even for a short while everyday and understand the real you and also unleash that positive potential that lies dormant within you now.
Thanks
