THE RIGHT THING

OTHER STUFF

I do the right thing, in my humble opinion.

I work 50-60 hours minimum, every week.

I am never late for work.

I rarely vacation (they make me take the time, though I can’t afford it).

I owe (and own) very little.

I live within my financial means.

I am the working poor.

Should I be proud of my prudence and frugality?

No it’s just good common sense.

I could feel cheated.

Why?

Well, the persons who end up being my last peers, in the nursing home, probably bought many things that they could not afford any more than I could.

So…. they got their kicks out of their toys.

Maybe they went bankrupt? Or worse? Maybe not.

I wouldn’t dream of denying anybody a chance at happiness, even if it were materialistic and fleeting.

So, a former credit junkie and me are both dying now (imagine).

Which one of us did the right thing with our short time on earth?

I'm a believer of the afterlife and of karma. I think we need to treat others as we wish to be treated and to live according to our personal ethics and morals.
What goes around comes around even in the afterlife.

Being EVER the liberal and proud of it, I'm not able to judge what is right for one or what might be right for another. Ya know, we've all got to make those decisions for ourselves. We can't be comparing or judging.

HOWEVER, I see fewer and fewer who are accountable for their decisions and that is very disappointing! Social nets should only be in place for emergencies, catostropic illness... We should all expect to pay our bills and live within our means!

I am truly a very simple person. Average in most every way. I admire responsibility and the people I choose to spend time with are responsible people.

I liked the welfare reform program Clinton started and although it needs more work I think it was a great start to a good solution.

All that rambling out, I am happiest when giving and helping. I'm old now and all too often not needed as much as I like to be needed. I haven't seen any evidence that money can buy happiness or love or friends or true quality of life. So give me simple pleasures and lots of people to love and I will always be a happy woman (no matter who has more)!

Linda!
What a refreshing outlook on life.
The Dalai Lamma would be proud of you.
I always wanted to read his book-
"The Art Of Happiness".

You are way too kind! I'm too simple to see anything but what I expect. Actually I've been so lucky in life and I've seen good too often to be less than a pollyanna. Don't we all color our own destiny most of the time? As my Mom told me more often than I can count, "Well, young lady you can just get glad in those same shoes you got mad / sad in!" She didn't allow pouting. Perhaps if I had ever had to face adversity I would be more cynical.
