Good Morning!

OPEN THREADS
I'm not going to bother with current events and opinions today.
Why don't we just visit as if we were neighbors who talk over the fence while hanging our laundry?

Good morning to you, too, Tracy!
It looks a little cloudy out there, so I'm not sure I'll be hanging laundry today, but I do enjoy a chat over the fence. How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

No laundry hanging today, Tracy, the restrictive covenants don't allow a clothesline. :-) Sorry, the restrictive covenants also dictate a fence too high to see over so we can't enjoy a chat face to face. Guess the blog is going to have to serve.
Hope the weather decides to not get bad later today, as I understand is a possibility. Was at a "get acquainted" thing last night to meet a prospective new teacher at the school where my wife works who is from Pittsburgh, PA, and one of her concerns was over the "T word". Now, a certain evil part of me would like for her to experience the joys of sirens blaring, etc., but the good part of me recognizes the school could really use her as a teacher, so at worst, a gentle rain would be in order.

Isn't that what we were doing anyway? tehe We don't follow the script very well, do we?
My Mother is driving to Wichita from Shell Knob today. I worry until she arrives even tho worry is a total waste. She drives like a bat outta hell, thank goodness Hwy. 400 is relatively quiet on a Thursday morning. She and I will drive to Waukomis, Oklahoma (near Enid) Saturday for a family member's 80th birthday open house. She hasn't visited MindScapes (the new business my oldest daughter opened in June) so we'll be going there Friday evening for their Family Night and showing her the fun. Can't wait to see her play Wii, I figure she will beat the kids! MindScapes is having a Harry Potter release party so anyone who wants to play computer games while waiting for the magic 12:01 a.m. book release would enjoy themselves there. http://mindscapeswichita.com/
OK, I'll take my nervousness out on cleaning bathrooms. Sure hope early afternoon arrives quickly so I can quit this worrying!

Sounds like Linda will have the cleanest bathrooms in town. :-)
Seriously, Linda, I'm sympathetic. Your description of your mother's driving fits my mother's driving as well, or used to until she decided (on her own) to discontinue highway driving about five years ago. I've never had the intestinal fortitude to inquire whether this was due to an accumulation of speeding tickets or based upon other criteria.

Well, Dad is back in the hospital with more UTI.
Which leaves my mom to do her own thing....shopping.
I've got a strained muscle or sumpin' in my back.
This is excruciating! When I move in a way that hurts, it tries to "lock-up" right there.
OUCH!
On the humorous side, now I get to learn how to wipe my ass with my left hand. Way too painful with the right.
I know, that's waaaay more info than ya' wanted. HA!

I'm sorry you're hurting! Go home, rest, get better! Sorry to hear your Dad is in the hospital too; but it's where he belongs so he can get over the infection. I'm sure your Mom deserves the shopping time.
Mr. Clean would be proud of my bathrooms, there is a load of clothes in each machine, floors swept and Mother isn't here so on to dusting...

Good morning, all!
Tracy, you have my sympathies on your back problems. Been there, done that, still deal with it. My back has become a major indicator of my stress level. It started about ten years ago, when I bent over to answer the phone which someone had left on the floor. That episode ended with horrible muscle spasms and a visit to the doctor, who put me on a marvelous table with rollers and gave me muscle relaxers. I NEVER want to have such pain again.
Nowadays, my back lets me know when I'm stressing too much. I've come to rely on the heating pad and sleeping on the floor when it gets to be too much. I've even been known to put a board on my bed. I chalk it up to four pregnancies and sitting in a chair at the computer too much. Oh, yes, and that stress. :)
Take very, very good care of yourself and that back! That's an order. ;)

VT, behave yourself.

Mother arrived safely. Tonya came over and us three women talked a blue streak most of the afternoon into the early evening.
Don't miss the little story in today's GO! Section about MindScapes.
Remember way back when (a week or so) we were complaining about all the rain? Well, being an equal opportunity complainer I would like to state I am tired of summer already and ready for a cool down. Oh, and we could use some rain...

Linda, glad to hear your mom made it safely, and that you are having a loquacious time with her. Yes, we could use a bit of rain.
Listening to a remarkable program on "my favorite college radio station". It is about the gospel music of Elvis Presley. I became familiar with the same working in the funeral home, as there were many services where the deceased had requested that a selection or two from his album be played. The upshot of this is that the program is playing stuff I had never heard before, combined with interviews with his associates, the Jordanaires and others.

No! Please, no rain! I came home to grass that is proving impossible to mow, thanks to how fast it grew and the moisture in it. I just last night managed to rake up what we were able to cut in the front, earlier this week. Then I realized we were out of big trash bags. Forget the backyard. I think I'll get a goat. ;)
Vaughn Tolle said:
(Rox is gonna not like this one...) Why not, Rox, set the mower at its maximum cutting height to "take a little off the top" for now, then in a few days move it down and take a bit more? BTW, with forecast heat and reduced precip over the next few weeks, keeping the grass a bit longer will be beneficial for it and you, as it won't need as much water. Of course, obtaining ovine mammals is always a good alternative...

A bit of something for all our salacious curiosities concerning the alleged "D.C. Madam's" telephone records. Currently, it seems there are more questions raised therefrom than answers flowing. Draw your inferences while ye may!

I think my mower is already set at highest. It belonged to my son-in-law, until he got a better one. My old one just couldn't keep up anymore. Just call me Second-hand Rose. >g<
Eventually, the job will get done, only to be done again. Such is life. :)

Yeah, Rox; no personal disease, etc., worries, take a small commission, etc., etc. There's always a demand, so increase the supply at little long-term physical risk.

Noticed, Rox, that the NWS has pulled all chances of rain from the forecast for the rest of today and tonight. The bad news, Linda, is that we're in for a continuation of the heat plus some humidity for the forecast period (seven days).
And, in honor of Rox, just finished listening to "Second Hand Rose" (Barbra Streisand recording, of course).

Taking advantage of the "back fence" approach here...
I'm aware that some may not be too interested in this one, but I forge ahead regardless. The inaction by the Atlanta Falcons in light of the indictment of Michael Vick on dog fighting, etc. charges is remarkable. The studied silence of the NFL merits comment as well.
One wonders if Mr. Vick was not a star African-American quarterback but instead a star Caucasian quarterback whether there would be the same inaction. From listening to a discussion of this issue on some sports show, I believe ESPN, I have concluded no. My response is based upon the assertion of the former NFL players present, together with the host, that there are likely only a half-dozen players in the NFL (Mr. Vick being one of these) who would not have already been suspended by his team and the league given the nature of the alleged offenses and the increasingly negative publicity being generated as a result thereof (this was _before_ the additional "piling on" today in the Senate and the media by responsible and perhaps not-so-responsible public figures). Interestingly, it was the consensus of those present that all the half-dozen players they had in mind were African-American.
IIRC, Mr. Vick had a few minor scrapes with the authorities while in college (not to confuse him with his younger brother, who attended the same school, played quarterback on the football team, and who had multiple scrapes with the authorities, some of which were not minor), which, it was rumored at the time, adversely affected his draft ranking. At that time, there were mutterings about the perceived institutional racism present in the NFL. In essence, the mutterings surrounded allegations that if he (Mr. Vick) was "White", these things would not be issues.
I'm wondering just what this says about where we are, as a society. There needs to be "color blind" treatment of all, whether it's a star quarterback in the NFL or some poor schmoe stopped by the cops for allegedly running a red light. I'm sure the amount of money involved to the team and league, this is going to be a major topic for a good long time.
