THIS SONG ROCKS!

LYRICS

HOLIDAY, BY GREEN DAY

Say! Hey!

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an armageddon flame (Hey!)
The shame, the ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called Faith and Misery (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protester has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men (Hey!)
A gag, A plastic bag on a monument

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

hey!
(3,4)

The representative from california now has the flooooooor...
Sieg Heil to the president gasman,
Bombs away is your punishment!
Pulverize the Eiffel towers,
who criticize your government!
Bang bang goes the broken glass man,
Kill all the fags that don't agree!
Trial by fire, setting fire
It's not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause, because we're outlaws yeah!
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
This is our lives....
On Holiday!

Interesting lyrics, Tracy. I'd sing along, but I don't know the tune.

The other day I mentioned a song "Saturday Night at the World." I have it on an album recorded by The Smothers Brothers. This morning I went searching for the lyrics (unsuccesfully). Don't make me go to the basement and dig out the album (PLEASE!). So, I'm asking for help. I've learned the tune was composed and lyrics written by Mason Williams (of Classical Gas fame) and that he wrote for the Smothers Brothers show and is also an eclectic poet and lyricist. Unless you guys are better at "the google" then me I'm going to have to dig out those boxes and I just know THE album I'm looking for will be in the LAST box... grumble.

Linda, do you remember any of the lyrics? A line or two? I found a listing of all their albums, but no song by that title. How about the name of the album? I know, these are tough questions. :)

I can usually find what I'm looking for, so I'll check Mason Williams next.

(Thanks for the chance to procrastinate!!!)

According to the Smothers Brothers website, Saturday Night at the World was on a Dick Smothers solo album of the same name, released 9/67.

DICKS SOLO ALBUM - SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE WORLD (RELEASED 9/67)

Can’t Help Falling In Love 2:40
I Wanna Be Free 2:44
They Are Gone 3:12
Here There And Everywhere 2:42
What Now My Love 2:38
Saturday Night At The World 2:45
I Know Why (And So Do You) 3:08
The World I Used To Know 3:20
Smile 2:46
Turn Around 2:15
Some pressings of SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE WORLD have the same songs in a different order.

So far, that's what I've come up with, but, hey, it's something!

Tracy, I like this song! Another good song that speaks of people, not necessarily war protesting or anything is the song Dig by Incubus. Posted below:

We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify. Look me in the eye,
and ask for forgiveness.
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again.
Yes, you are my friend.
We all have something that digs at us,
at least we dig each other.

So when weakness turns my ego up
I know you'll count on the me from yesterday.

If I turn into another
dig me up from under what is covering
the better part of me.
Sing this song
remind me that we'll always have each other
when everything else is gone.

We all have a sickness
that cleverly attaches and multiplies
No matter how we try.
We all have someone that digs at us,
at least we dig each other.

So when sickness turns my ego up
I know you'll act as a clever medicine.
If I turn into another,
dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me.
Sing this song!
Remind me that we'll always have each other
when everything else is gone.
Oh, each other when everything else is gone.

ooooh....
(7x)

If I turn into another
dig me up from under what is covering
the better part of me.
Sing this song
remind me that we'll always have each other
when everything else is gone.

Oh, each other when everything else is gone. (x2)
