It has now been 17 hours since Horst Wessel posted violent hate speech on the Illegal Immigrants thread.

Phillip Brownlee has assured us that all we need to do is notify them of posts that go over the line and they will be pulled.

If they are not pulled in a timely manner however, it does no good.

The Eagle needs to get some moderators in place to clean this up.

Imagine if someone posted that Bin Laden is right and terrorism against the US citizens is right and justified and God wills for Americans to die horrible painful deaths at the hands of terrorism and exhorts readers to commit acts of mass murder.

That's not free speech.

The Eagle has responsibility for what is posted here.

They need to exercise that responsibilty or just shut the damn thing down.

Please e-mail Brownlee and ask him to get off his dead ass and get a system in place that can deal with this kind of hate speech.

By the way, I'm sending this on to groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center and the NAACP that monitor hate speech.

Thank you.

I read yesterday where CapnA said he had sent an email to all the regulars -- I didn't get the email so it is confirmed I am not a regular. Don't plan to become one either! I didn't know what the post he had asked to be removed said; now I do. I don't think there is anyone working on Saturday nights and Sundays so maybe that is why the post wasn't removed more quickly. I doubt many readers went back to locate the post. Seldom do old threads remain active for more than a couple of days (there are, of course, exceptions!) so it seems CapnA was bringing more attention to the objectionable post with his posts. IF the objectionable post had been made under CapnA's blogging alias I would have been more upset. The way it was didn't reflect directly on him although I understand why he doesn't want such hate posted anywhere.

What I do know for sure is that ignoring is better than getting sucked in to the insanity!

Good morning blogging friends who post as who they are, take credit for their own opinions and make apologies when they are wrong, try hard to be fair and respectful, aren't afraid to admit they don't know and have no need of thinking they hold the only correct opinion! Ours is a nice blogging world!

Good one Linda! Now here's a little humor to start your day. I cant play videos on my computer, but a friend played this for me this weekend. I laughed until my stomach hurt. It's called "Cows with Guns". Viva la cow revolution!

morning ladies
I don't care what they do over there either.
When I do go back, it's always as some 'egg-spurt' on whatever topic.
I just leave a post.
Ya' don't dare interact with anybody.

You're right, Tracy; it has become hazardous to try to interact with anyone "over there". Just leave a post and go seems to be the best way to proceed.

Longhorn,

That video was great. For some reason, what came to mind when I saw the chickens, was the cows getting ready to say something like "eat more chicken." :D

Tracy and Vaughn,

I go over there rarely and I concur, the best way is post and run for cover!

Vaughn, I've been meaning to ask ever since that federal judge dismissed the Wilson's case whether the Wilson's have further options, if so, do you think it advisable for them to pursue those?

Linda, the options are either to appeal, or to refile in "state" court (it is my recollection that the judge's dismissal was on lack of jurisdiction, not on the merits of the litigation in any way). I don't know if they should pursue either.

longhorn, you're right; I get them confused. The sandwiches are good, and I like the commercials too.

The feds are offering Michael Vick a deal; 18 to 36 months in prison. His attorneys are still trying to get out for less than one year. The RICO hammer is still present, as I understand it (up to 20 years). Mike; your done, take the deal.

The above may only be of primary interest to me, but I thought y'all would find it interesting how often the current administration has asserted the "state secrets" privilege, and how the judiciary is starting to push back.

im, if you're out there, hope your weather situation in Terre Haute is a bit better than ours here: air temp, 93; heat index, 105. Yep, more humidity (I think related to the remnants of Erin), and it looks to me to continue a day or two longer.

May I direct your attention to the below? Besides being an informed and polite disagreement between two blogging types, it is an example of how to disagree without becoming disagreeable, if you will. Please see also Greenwald's response by accessing it through the link in this piece.

That assessment about the individual with no luck around more than one train seems fair enough. I did pass the story on to those at work though. It got a pretty good laugh.

Vaughn,

The last link from yesterday was interesting. It may be one of those things to think about. The key to me in debating and disagreeing is not making personal attacks first, then attempting to honestly answer legitimate questions asked second.

I think it is important to not attack the person for their ideas because then it means that the arguer has no valid points to be made any longer. Secondly, it means the arguer also has not room to see why the other person(s) is holding a particular idea to be true. Which means one is blind to what someone else sees.

In answering questions(legitimate ones), it means I don't ignore what is being brought up. I may not have all the answers, and sometimes that means that is how my reply will be formed. In which case, I'll provide how I see something. Ideas and thoughts should be part of the argument, and proof of statements(such as links) should be used when needed to support an argument being made.

There should never be any need to attack someone personally for a belief. Some issues will be heated as people do sometimes believe firmly in ideas and do not want to be shown to be wrong. But keeping an open mind is important and when I ask questions, I do try to keep them legitimate and when I asked in my mind they have been.

I generally think, that while I may not always agree with everyone on issues, I'll never hate someone over an opinion that they hold to be true. Even if I really do think it is wrong and really think I can prove it so.

Sometimes, Danny, the "right" thing to do where two people disagree on an issue, each party believing his position to be correct and fully supported by the facts, is to agree to disagree and move on. This is not always an easy thing to do, as I freely admit I've stayed in discussions/debates too long where the other side is as dogmatic as I in his belief/opinion. However, since I've started to grow up, the "agree to disagree" approach has sure been fruitful in keeping a civil relationship with the other person.

Vaughn,

I agree with that, agreeing to disagree. Especially when each side sees the same set of information in completely different fashions. I do my best to see how the other side sees something, sometimes I am able to but still feel it is wrong, and that is when I can do my best arguing. ;) Other times, I try and I really can't see how someone sees that view and it is when I do my best to let it go.
