BUSY SEASON

OPEN THREADS

If your school, office, or other organization is starting their heating system soon and finds problems....GREAT!

Great for the owner here. The rest of us pukes who have to fix the problem(s) are heading into "PANIC SEASON". Each new cold snap brings the panicked administrators to our doorstep. Chances are better than 50% that they will be waiting on me, either directly or indirectly. From now till Christmas, it's all assholes and elbows 'round here!

Tracy, just think of this as job security. Kinda hard to "offshore" the tech's job, no?

As it seems to me that most building owners, etc., don't pay attention annually (hey, it has in my memory always cooled off eventually every year), it creates a never-ending cycle of turn it on, OMG, there's a problem (meanwhile the employees, students, et al) sit and shiver or are about overcome with the odor of burning dust and dirt, so on and so on, call the company and get upset because there's a three-week waiting list of calls....

A system check, say in early to mid-August would, it seems to me, alleviate the panic season, and spread out the work. But, Tracy says, there goes the overtime if all did that... :-)

Tracy, you mean your work schedule can get WORSE?? When will we ever get to hear from you??

I have wondered what you do. Guess this thread gives me a couple of hints! Someday when you aren't in a crunch situation maybe you can share. If not, we're here and will keep the light on!

I opened a window last night, after turning off the AC, and was rewarded with a nicely cool house this morning. Now that the sun is out, the inside temp is going up, too, so I doubt there'll be any cooling-to-heating changes made this week. It would be really nice not to have a higher heating bill so quickly following the outrageous cooling bills. One month respite would be nice, so sorry, Tracy, I hope I won't have to be calling you or yours anytime soon. ;)

Rox, we'll go you one better. As I believe I've bored you with before, we have a window fan, some 33 or 34 years old, obtained from Sears when I was in the USAF. It's a real oldie but goodie, with both exhaust and intake modes. We put that sucker in the window downstairs when the temp is at 80, and turn it on in the exhaust mode, with the upstairs windows open. The heat goes out, the night air comes in, and we've saved a considerable amount on the cooling bill this summer (and prior years as well).

JUST GOT A BREAK!!!!
If it's residential/small, you won't be waiting on me.
One burner we shipped recently had a 5 foot diameter blower wheel!
I forget how many million BTU it put out.
One of my orders that's being built now burns 100 gallons PER HOUR of fuel oil, and it's not that big!
