ATTEMPTED ATTEMPT

NEWS

CLEVELAND.COM

David Lumpkin planned to withdraw money Tuesday from Huntington Bank on Turney Road in Garfield Heights.

The 39-year-old even used a deposit slip from his wife's checkbook to write a note for the teller, saying: "This is a robury. Give me all the money in both drawers. No one will get hurt!!!"

But the would-be robber stood in the doorway of the bank and fidgeted in his coat. Lumpkin alerted bank tellers to his scheme by wearing a blazer, sunglasses, baseball hat, oversized bag, and a long fake beard.

He apparently got cold feet and left after a bank teller made eye contact with him, a police report said.

A bystander had watched Lumpkin act suspiciously at a National City Bank and wrote down the license plate of the Ford Explorer he drove.

The man stopped a Garfield Heights police officer outside the Huntington branch and gave him the license plate number.

The officer arrested Lumpkin for driving a stolen vehicle.

Danny, as to stories; I've a few from "back in the day" when young lawyers (age<35) were on the appointments list for municipal and district courts here in Wichita. Just as I've a few from the old Area Defense Counsel days in the USAF. I just don't need any more. :-)

Vaughn,

The sometimes I wonder about people was meant for the gentleman in the story above. I just read what I had said and thought... boy that sounded bad.

Hehe. I guess I'm still working on building up my stories. Like my daughter(eldest) deciding that she needed to get shaving cream all over herself when taking a bath today(according to her mother).

Vaughn,

I think she is getting close to that stage. Woke up this morning to her sitting on the bathroom counter playing with toothbrushes. Haven't figured out how she climbed up there yet. She takes after her dad and climbing. I'll take credit for it hehe.

In fact, buy her own "razor" and share your shaving cream. It's fun and safer than her trying to borrow one from Dad or Mom. Wonder if they still sell the kind I bought oh so many years ago.

You know the sad part, Danny? When all those wonderful stories and memories are being made parents have less time to write them down and there are some forgotten. My daughter knew she couldn't / wouldn't keep a baby book. She bought or utilized a give away calendar for each child each year and tried to jot the firsts, the adorables, the don't want to forgets. Those calendars are such fun to go through! She said it worked because they were hanging in the child's room, there was limited space so she didn't need to write much or feel it needed to be written "just so so" as you would more likely feel with a book.

OK, y'all, it may be time for me to shut it down; listening to "my favorite college radio station" that is currently playing a Reggae duet with Willie Nelson as one of the singers; what will happen to the earth? Will the sun rise in the West tomorrow? Just a bit much for me right now.

Rox,

It appears Nathan is ignoring GMC's entreaty, except for a "promise" to quit badgering Chas. Too bad. This is if you didn't notice it yourself.

For others reading, I'm referring to todays Open Thread "over there".

Linda,

Those are both excellent ideas. I'll look into the play razor for her. I think Becky may already be doing something similar to the calendar though, but I could be mistaken. She may be noting the memorable events on her own blog instead.

Vaughn(and others as well),

I'm not sure if you listen to internet radio or not. But there is a great little online radio for music. http://pandora.com What this does, is you provide it an artist, a song, or a genre of music. At this point it plays either the song, a song by the artist, or a song with in the genre. Then you tell pandora, if this was a good song or not, and then it starts finding similar music. The more you provide(never have to give them information, but it is free and all they really need is a email address) the more accurate it is in finding music you'll like.

Pretty neat.

Vaughn,

As much as I hate to say it, I avoid the "over there" like the plague. Because while I may not agree with everybody here on every topic it is kept civilized as it seems we at least try to listen to each other without the name calling.

Understand your position, Danny; I try to avoid it, but from reading the Eagle every morning, there are some topics which will generate an interesting discussion, and I do participate therein from time to time.

Yes, there is a civility here that is attractive. That's why I tend to read/post here regularly. Sometimes "over there" reminds me of so-called "free boards" hosted by fans/companies associated with certain athletic programs which tend to become, shall we say, uncivilized from time to time.

I note that GMC has called Nathan on his response, rightfully so.

Vaughn,

This is my view on religion.

I have no problem with those who don't believe the same religion as me. My reasoning behind this is that if person A follows the religion that I do because I "made" them follow it, then it means nothing to them. On the other hand, if person A chose to follow it, perhaps became interested in it because of something I do, then great perhaps it will hold more meaning to them. Convert by my witnessed actions not by force.

Further, there is no point to judge someone. While it is true, I am against abortion(as an example) and think that it should be illegal, I've never once judged anyone who has sought or received one or provided one. I don't know the state of their soul, so whats the point in judging them.

What I have started doing though as a result of intelligent conversations(elsewhere and here to a smaller extent), I've began to tutor single parents with computer and math classes(1 hour a day at the library here). I volunteer to do this. This way they can pursue their education and in turn better provide for their child in the long run.

It isn't much, I realize that, but I think that if every person who claims to be pro-life worked to help the single moms, women who were raped, or seeking a career, or whatever the need may be then abortion is reduced(to me this may be the best we get). Some would argue we shouldn't make it illegal but that stems from how we view where life begins.

Danny, you are to be applauded for your efforts, as meager as you may believe them to be. I try to do the same with reference to certain high school "single moms" when I can with reference to classes with which I can be of assistance (generally, math through Alg. II, English (all), U.S. History, Government, Economics, Biology and Chemistry). I do this with a not-so-altruistic intent. I realize my future Social Security payments are reliant on an employee pool making the tax contributions, and I want these folks to obtain their diploma to make more money. Unfortunately, my available time and their available time often conflict (for obvious reasons, I think), so I'm not too involved very often.

Again, Danny, "good on you".
