It seems I'm speechless today, but not really. Too many things to gripe about, but I'm trying to be more positive. :)
Did anyone else have a good weekend? Linda's was fabulous! I'm (positively) jealous. LOL

We pretty much vegged around the house on Saturday... Sunday we went down to the future mil's house - tomorrow is the one year anniversary of my fiance's father's passing, so she had the family over for dinner and to just chat - it was good to see everyone again...
The fiance' starts his new job tomorrow - so today he is running around town doing errands for me... we have all sorts of "classes" we have to take before the wedding (darn crazy catholics) so he was paying registration fees and all of that fun stuff this morning, and this afternoon he should be running to the grocery store to get some chicken - Which I will be living off of for the next two weeks :) - and make me some sun tea :) I love him! I think maybe I'll keep him around :)
Hope everyone is doing well.... I tried ONE more time to take a look "over there" and yeah, I have just decided I am going to hang out here with the sane people - I couldn't even UNDERSTAND half the blogs because of all the crazy stuff that people were typing...

Well my weekend was packed full of exercising:
I did yet another monthly practice physical fitness test for the FBI. I scored 5 points this time, 7 shy of 'passing' and 15 shy of really being what I'd call ready for the Phase 2 interview and real PFT.
Rox,
Did you get my links to the printer websites?

Yes, Danny. Thank you. I now have clattering that stops, then the lights cycle through as they always do and stop at the green ready light. But the paper now won't pick up, even though I cleaned the pick up roller.
But all is not lost. My best friend is loaning me an extra printer she has, so I'll worry about mine when I have the time to worry.
I really appreciate your help and have bookmarked the links for the future.

Yes, Wendy, it's crazy time over there. There's no well to tell who is "real" or "imitation". One particular person seems to think everyone else is to blame except him. Yeah, right.
I do get a few laughs over there though, it gets to be so ridiculous.

Well, now that Linda has no doubt recovered from her weekend, I note that rain appears to be bearing down on her (from the latest radar report).

I read an article on the Wichita Eagle this morning about a rally for Domestic Violence. The article itself was rather good - although it felt abbreviated... but the comments simply sickened me... some idiot actually got on there and said that "women need to learn to deal with strong men" or something along that lines (I was so mad after reading it that I can't remember it and I am certainly not going to go back there and anger myself further). Having watched my mother go through an abusive relationship for 7 years while I was in high school and college - the ignorance of people just consistently ASTOUNDS me... There is NOTHING strong about abuse... There was a story a few weeks ago highlighting a woman who had not one but two abusive husbands and finally fled from Michigan (I think) to Kansas to escape at least one of them, and one FEMALE commenter said something along the lines of "this woman is not strong. She let her kids be exposed to that and it is just wrong and we should not be congratulating her for leaving this man twenty years too late". I seriously wanted to say "Hello? Have you been in an abusive relationship, and do you know how difficult it is to leave an abusive relationship? No, then sit the hell down and shut the hell up!" Ignorant people make me so angry...
and I am dieting, so I am hungry, which does not help things :)

Yep, I like him. I had to laugh last night, when I got home, he told me this story about one of the registrations he went to take care of yesterday. When he got there, the woman asked him if we were already registered and he told her "I don't have any idea, I just know my fiance told me to come down here and pay some money, so here I am" and she asked him "Do you always do what your fiance tells you to?" and he replied "Yeah, pretty much." And she told him "sounds like you are off to a good start then!"

Reminds me of the advise I heard someone give a new groom. "Just remember three phrases, son, and you'll be fine". The phrases? Yes dear, you are right dear, of course I'll do it DEAR!

And so it begins...
Bush has officially vetoed the SCHIP bill... and current the house does not have enough votes to override the veto, although tthe senate does...
I have to say, the more I read about this the angrier I get - mainly because Bush is full of S***, but also because I think the public who is arguing against this bill is woefully uninformed...
This bill is for a renewal of the current program, and Democrats wanted to add an additional $35 bil over 5 years to provide more coverage for children who still fall in the uninsured gap. This increase in funding would be paid for by an increase in the cigarette tax (bringing it to $1).
Bush only wants an allowance of $5 billion. And his argument behind this is that he is afraid that children who currently are under private insurance that could possibly qualify for SCHIP insurance coverage would do so, causing an increase in cost. What Bush fails to mention or even consider is that there are failsafes written in to the bill to help prevent this, and ALSO, since this is a joint state-federal program, states would have the autonomy to set the income level cut off for themselves. Democrats also wrote into the bill an incentive program designed to incourage states to "start at the bottom" so to say, where they get more financial backing for more lower income families that they get on the program, and less as the income levels increase, to also discourage this...
From what I can see, Bush is basically denying health care to those who most need it. And if this bill cannot get passed with or without adjustments, then SCHIP will end altogether... I could be wrong about that, but that is how I define "renewal"

please pardon the spelling and grammatical errors above... the mental spell check shuts off whenever I get particularly angry about a subject, and on read through I am finding many things that I previously missed :)

That's all right, Wendy; my way of dealing with this is to "type" the post, then let it sit a few minutes until my ire and bile subside, then examine it (with a view to hopefully catching the more egregious spelling and grammatical errors) prior to clicking on the "Add Comment" button.
What needs to happen is for there to be pressure brought to bear on sufficient members of the House to override; I'm not hopeful about this occurring, however. I still wonder if elimination of SCHIP with the lower premiums to the private companies who provide the insurance isn't a big part of this (no, I've no data which state the premiums paid the companies are lower, but I believe a presumption of negotiated premiums may be made).
The program is too popular, though, for it to be totally eliminated. The new fight (if the House fails to override) will be whether GWB will prevail on his total of $5 billion increase in funding, or if there will be a sufficient number of members of Congress who are able to prevail on a higher number (but still short of the $35 billion increase in the vetoed bill).

Wendy, the only error I see is BUSH. He doesn't have a clue what it means to work for a living. He doesn't want to have one. I doubt he could even read the bill. He had his mind made up when it was first mentioned. Heaven forbid that someone get something for "nothing". Not that he ever got something for nothing. After all, he was born into wealth.
It's not just him. I'm sure Darth is in the wings, helping, and a few others.

LOL on the sitting on posts, VT. I've trashed many when I've calmed down and reread. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt if I did more of that.
Yes, I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the "reduced rates". I also read a news piece that said congress would be working on a compromise bill. But what I'm wondering is if he would even approve his own offer of a $5 billion increase.

One of the many things I like about this blog site and more importantly you bloggers is that each of us CAN post what we feel. I admire you Vaughn for your control but I just don't have it. I do know you all will let me be riled up, pissed off, rant and then tomorrow when I calm down accept my moments of over reacting!

Rox,
I think we all should participate in that - I know I have deleted a few rants myself when, after re-reading (is that a word, btw?) they really made no sense... But sometimes they slip past me as the one above did...
Now, I know the man has rocks for brains (some days I wonder if he can even dress himself or if he has someone to do it for him) - but as I understand it, SCHIP is designed to assist lower income families who make too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private health care (I would include myself in that class, but since we are about to become a two income family, I will suck it up - plus I pay for private healthcare because it just doesn't make sense to me not to and I don't qualify for the current program in place here in KS). - So I don't know that "something for nothing" would be correct - because my understanding is that there is still a premium to be paid, albeit income based...
Now the reduced premiums/insurance company involvement I can believe whole-heartedly... after all, they are an industry, and it's all about the bottom line, right?
And I doubt Bush would even approve his $5 billion offer (of course, if the Democrats were smart, they'd take that $5 billion and put in on a bill good for only one year, so that next year, AFTER election time, they could force it through the new pres, still on roughly the same timeline as their initial proposal...) But what really astounds me is his assertion that the general public would be paying for this - the way the bill is drafted, this isn't an income tax thing or a medicare/social security/FICA thing - its a SALES tax on ONE item... BIG difference... It's like the arena folks and their "vote for the arena and you only have a sales tax increase for two years, or else your property taxes are going to go up..." all the while neglecting to mention that property taxes are going to increase regardless, just not at the same rate...

Linda,
We all need a safe place to vent. It's good for the soul...and the heart, nervous system, mental health, etc. :) Feel free to stay healthy.
Wendy, Healthwave here is definitely on a sliding scale. When my daughter got married, she and her hubby weren't making a lot. The cost of adding two kids and her onto his insurance was going to swallow most of his take home pay. The kids went the Healthwave route, and she paid $15 a month. Now, these aren't sick kids. They get their immunizations and don't need a doctor a lot...except for the little guy who is as accident prone as his (step)dad. It isn't like they were running up high medical bills, thank goodness. But they really couldn't do without. That, in my opinion, would be irresponsible.
I'm not sure how Medicaid for children works in KS or who can be covered. I do know that Healthwave has tightened enrollment, but I think that's because of illegals.

Vaughn,
agreed. When I was in counseling after my son's father decided to, well, do all the things he did ( I still thank god daily that I managed to miss that bullet) one of my "assignments" was to write a letter to him telling him all the things I felt... it was EXTREMELY cathartic. Still have that hiding somewhere - I should probably destroy it before the kiddo gets old enough to read... and I do still prefer writing my poetry to that as a method of relief...
Rox, My best friend was in rather the same situation, and also put her children on healthwave - I agree, much more responsible than letting it go - in fact, had I qualified (I missed the mark by a VERY small margin, less than my current deductible AAMOF) I would have done the same, simply because I can BARELY eak out the current insurance now, but certainly am not willing to go without it especially with a small child because you never know what could happen...
