OPEN THREADS

I hope to hear from Julie today. What a strange new world, where I can worry about people I've never met. Julie sent me a family photo once upon a time, but I couldn't pick any of them out of a line up.

I'd sure like to know how mountain man is doing. And how Julie and the kids are doing. I think about them frequently and I'm hoping Julie's prayer gets answered.

hi longhorn, it's good to see you as always. Me too! Like Tracy said it is so strange how deeply we can feel for online friends in this new world. I have met Julie and her two daughters -- but very briefly at a time I was meeting many others. The knowing comes from here where we've shared and become friends.

I know people who are very close to God and their every word is shared with Him so I've got them talking about MM and his family as Julie requested.

We're all holding our breaths and on the edge of our chairs, and the situation doesn't leave our minds no matter what else we're doing.

Yes, Linda, as Tracy said, it is strange how this whole blogging thing can affect us so deeply when it's one of "ours" facing a crisis and takes the time to let us know. I've done the same as Linda, BTW, and am sure that Julie's request is being honored by many, many folks.

lh, the wife is back at work, functioning close to normal. There is another appointment with yet another doctor a week from this coming Monday where we hopefully will finally have some answers. As for me, well, best described as doing as well as can be expected, behind in getting my work done, but all in all, I'm not complaining.

One "positive" thing from the last couple of weeks; she's doing a better job at getting her rest, and actually eating when she should (and eating better, as well). My wife is a true "night owl", and with her job (and the rest of the world) not running from Midnight to 8 a.m., she has been going on not enough sleep (IMO), skipping meals, etc., for too many years. This seems to be changing now.

Hope you are well, lh; good to see you, as Linda says.

I don't know Julie except from here, and yes I really do hope everything is alright with her husband. So I'll keep them in my thoughts and prayers until such time we find out.

On a different note:
How is everybody doing today? My work log is going to show: 42 hours of support work this week alone so far. *cries* I hate SQL!

They started MM on dialysis this morning. I'm trying to keep everybody as updated as possible. Thank goodness for blogs and emails - gets the word out quick.

Still playing the waiting game. Should know by Monday whether or not the antibiotics are working.

I'm pleased they started dialysis because it will help flush some of the toxins out and hopefully kickstart the kidneys into working again.

Prayers are working. I'm much calmer today than I was yesterday. I still have my bouts of incontrollable sobbing but I'm keeping it together much better today.

Thank you all for your kind words and most of all your support.
I appreciate y'all more than you'll ever know.
Thank you.

Danny, the correct way for you to look at SQL is the same way I look at the Internal Revenue Code: job security. :-)

Julie, may the dialysis work as hoped, and may the antibiotics prove successful. We're here to yell at, cuss at, scream at, well you get the point; but most of all, we're here to listen and to offer our support as best we can.

Thanks for letting us know, Julie. I know you have lots of people wanting updates and that takes time, which you dont have much of, considering kids, household, job, and of course, Roy. Hell, just keeping the hospital staff on track is a full time job.

We're pulling for ya girl. Stay strong.

Which way do you see the dancer going?

Once again I am ABnormal, and don't see what most do.

Well, Linda, I see the dancer turning clockwise; I think that makes us both "ABnormal", given the text.

Well, may have spoken (posted?) too soon. Apparently, Mrs. VT has had an adverse reaction to new prescription, so off that, back onto the old, with previously scheduled doctor's appointment canceled and rescheduled for the 12th (upcoming Monday). Very, very minor in relation to that with which Julie is dealing, but as you have asked, you got it.

Julie, hang in there. Take as good care of yourself as is possible under the circumstances. Please.

I'm glad she is back to the doctor sooner! Keep a careful eye, OK?

Here's how my son-in-law saw the "dancer" situation. lol

First of all, who can concentrate on which way she's turning (hubba hubba), secondly, she's periodically switching direction, so the point is moot. This is yet another example of right-brained liberals trying to indoctrinate us "right-thinking" Americans into their psychobabble fantasies. Even my wife is trying to convince me the world is flat. Please. Next you'll tell me we will have a female president!

Linda,

Anti-clockwise is how I see it. No matter how hard I concentrate on it and focus on it, it will only go anti-clockwise. Though my friend who looks it states it depends who whether you view the foot that is in the air as being the left or right foot. And it is easier to get it to spin in one direction or the other by covering the shadow. Though no matter what I tried it always spun anti-clockwise.

"Anti-clockwise"; it just occurred to me that I grew up saying and hearing "counter-clockwise", and the first time I heard "anti-clockwise" it was some Brit speaking. Has anti-clockwise become the accepted term?

Vaughn,

I don't know, I've heard it both ways and always liked to be a little different. ;) So I use the anti-clockwise terminology, but most of my professors in computer science used it as anti-clockwise as well. In other classes it was counter-clockwise. So I guess it depends on the person?

Danny, interesting, as the Brit to whom I referred was a "guest lecturer" in my one and only computer science class (Spring semester, 1969) at KU. Maybe it has become "accepted jargon" in computer science.

Linda and Danny, thanks for the responses. I became curious (although not yellow, no hepatitis here :-)).

Okay, I am with Danny. She turned counter-clockwise, no matter how long I looked at her and tried to make her turn the other way. I even closed the screen for a minute, and reopened it to see if I could get the counterclockwise motion out of my head - but nope, she was solidly turning counterclockwise the whole time :)

The following is a copy of an email most of you received. It's been edited a bit for personal info. but it's basically intact for my other friends whose email addresses I don't have.

MM has the MRSA strain of staph infection. This is the really nasty staph that's been in the news around Wichita lately. He also has sepsis and from what my cousin can tell from internet research it's caused by the staph infection.

He also has what is called Rabdo (it's actually part of a big long fancy medical term but is commonly referred to as Rabdo). It's basically muscle breakdown like after you exercise really really hard after long period of inactivity or laying around for a while. I'm thinking that because of his knee surgery and other health concerns that have made him virtually bedridden - that's whay may have 'helped' this along. The enzymes involved in Rabdo can act like a plug to the kidneys and make them work harder or in this case - combined with everything it's making them basically shut down.

We really won't have results to see how the meds are working until tomorrow or Sunday.

But I am very optomistic. WE ARE NOT LOSING GROUND WE"RE JUST TREADING WATER!!!!!!!!!!!! This in itself is a minor victory. As long as we stay the same for now - it's a baby step. He's keeping his blood pressure at good levels and his heart rate is good.

MM can communicate by nodding or shaking head and squeezing hands. He's gonna fight this stuff and has communicated to me and others that he's gonna get better and come back home.

JR,
I received your email.
Thanks and please pass on updates to those who desire them and didn't get the emails.

Thanks.

Right now since we're in such a waiting game I don't need anything. A cured hubby would be nice (I'd say fixed but he'd squirm thinking I was talking snip snip fixed.) :)

I'm almost in a normal mood. I actually laughed a several times today.
I see such an improvement in MM's color and response to me. I know the lab work doesn't show it yet but I'm very optomistic anyway.

HEH. Maybe Tracy should call his bloggie "frettin' friends" 'cause we all seem to be fretting about something.

Mostly about each other and our families?

I wonder if fresh eggs would help Roy feel better when he can eat again? I know they make ME feel better!
