Tracy, there are never the right words to say. My best to you and your wife, the family, and, as Linda says, we're here to listen if you feel like venting.

Tracy,

Hugs to you and yours on your father-in-law's passing. It's always hard to lose a loved one, but even worse around the holidays. Sending love and peace to all of you.

I never like to be the first to take a thread off subject, ESPECIALLY when its original topic was one telling us one of us needs hugs and special thoughts.

But, here I go anyway. What is about fools treading?

Vaughn, does the Mrs. go in tomorrow morning?

Does anyone have Thanksgiving plans that include traveling?

Tracy, could we have a "Gratitude" thread where we could share the many things we are thankful for? Guess we could do that on any ole thread!

Where is longhorn? I know she did mention going to Texas for an extended time this winter. But Texas has the internet! I hope all is well and we hear a hello soon.

Can you believe this weather!? With the possibility of nature-provided moisture this week we tried to get the leaves that were acting as an effective water barrier dealt with this past weekend. It was so pleasant to be outside! Wayne worked waaaay harder than me but I helped a little.

Back to cleaning. Sure wish y'all were more talkative and gave me more excuses to put off the inevitable. grumble...

Tracy,

so sorry to hear about the fil.

Julie,

how did the weekend go for MM?

Vaughn,

Hope things go well with the wife...

Linda,

We had similar ideas this weekend - we were the neighbors that put their christmas lights up way too early :) But since it was summer out and is supposed to be COLD next weekend, the fiance wanted to get it done (me personally, I could care less about christmas lights, but it's his first house and he was all excited and there was NO talking him out of it) well, did I mention that we are BOTH afraid of heights? He got up on the roof to do one of the peaks with icicle lights and I honestly thought he was going to pass out... and we still have to do one other peak and the other side of the house :) But it looks good so far :) He is a christmas freak... we went to Wal-Mart last night to add to our light collection (my old house was much smaller than this one so we needed more lights for it!) and wound up spending WAY too much money on Christmas decorations (and we aren't even done yet - he wants to get some of those deer and a "wire" christmas tree - I am good with that one because it looks really cool - but I did manage to talk him out of the inflatables...) I swear his goal is to make our house look like the Griswald's... at least I am allergic to real trees so I don't have to worry about the squirrel threat...

Linda, tomorrow is the day. She's got her stuff together, and is as ready as anyone can be to get this done. For reasons unknown, she is to be there three hours before surgery.

The weather is incredible, to be sure; looks like the weekend is going to be different.

Before the surgery was scheduled, we were going to be "on the road" for the annual Tolle family brawl (Thanksgiving edition). Obviously, that's not going to happen this year.

Wendy, as an acrophobe, I cannot believe either of you were on a roof. Also, as one with allergies to "real trees", I've learned to live with the artificial kind, even though I'm willing to fight the battle annually.

Vaughn,

I was pretty impressed he made it up there. He did much better on the ladder than the roof, which surprised me, because I am terrified of ladders. You are usually lucky to get me any higher than the third step - I just can't do it, I don't feel safe on them... Which was interesting when I helped with HfH last year and they were siding the house... I finally managed to convince them to let me run the power tools instead because most of the other women there were afraid of the power tools, so it worked out well... but I digress... I actually know what "all the blood rushed from his face" looks like now, because that was the look on his face once he got up there... I tried to talk him in to coming down, but he said he was already up there so he was going to get it done... I have my doubts if lights will be going up there next year, though... :)

And worse yet Wendy, what goes UP must come DOWN! We had gutter covers installed this past summer and they may mean no lights on the roof this year. Wayne has everything crossed and is hoping but I, the one who stays on the ground and directs, will be investigating "hanging systems" and do some digging into possible alternatives. It could be he is telling me this is a problem and hoping I will just believe it.

Wendy, Julie probably doesn't have your email address; me either. Here's the email sent last night:

Well Roy's still attached to the ventilator. He's very close to being off but not quite there yet. More breathing tests at 2 am tomorrow.

Creatin's back up to 7.0 but the theory is that it will seesaw it's way back to normal. He is producing a bit more urine everyday.

Roy keeps gaining strenth everyday - he's able to move his arms and legs better with more control and he's able to lift his shoulders and neck so we can adjust pillows easier.

I'm really starting to get really run down. I've had a killer headache all afternoon.

Chance is having a hard time dealing with Roy on the ventilator - he refuses to see Roy now until he's off the ventilator. I'm not going to force the issue at this time. Lauryn misses Daddy terribly. So does Winter. And so do I.

Thank you all for the continued prayer support!

Love,
Julie

The breathing test at 2 went very well - until Roy woke up. The theory is he panicked not having the ventilator breathing for him (even though he takes more breaths than the ventilator *makes* him).
He will be having another breathing test this afternoon. The doctors are confident he can get off the ventilator by Thanksgiving barring unforseen events.

His creatin is down to 6.5.

VT - my best to the missus!!

Julie, thank you. It sounds like Thanksgiving will be a day when thanks will be given, if all goes as planned, for you and yours.

Wendy, Linda points out yet another reason to never go up on a roof to put up lights; they need to come down, which requires yet another trip. And, the blood rushing from his face is real; I know. There is a reason to stay up once there, at least so long as one may retain consciousness, for the trip down is equally, if not more, terror inducing. Unfortunately, there are no bathrooms on a roof....

Linda, Wayne may well be right given the new covers.

He's ALWAYS right and I'm getting just a little tired of it!

lol

You'd think by now.

I'm like Wendy's guy and Christmas is special all the way through! I love everything that glitters, every smile, adore programs where small children with bright shiny faces sing, put up THREE trees (all artificial since we have allergy issues too). One year I took every picture from the walls and wrapped them with beautiful paper and ribbons and put them back until the walls were full of beautifully wrapped presents!

So, IF we can't have lights on the rooftop I wonder how we're going to line the very tall wood fence... thinking here.

I'm doing just fine, just a little mellow today.
Watching somebody die kinda' has that effect on me.
He was actually the wife's stepfather.
She's doing fair to middlen'.
Mostly middlen'.

Vaughn,
I tried to point this out to him as well. He tried to tell me they could just stay up. I informed him we were not going to be those neighbors.

Linda,
Oh, he is out of control. The crazy thing is, it seems like we have all these Christmas decorations, and then when we go to set things up, I still have bare surfaces on my tables... Which I am sure will be even worse this year as we now have two ledges in our living room that will need decor and we just bought new living room furniture complete with two end tables and a coffee table, none of which we possessed before... and we have a fireplace mantel to cover this year too... he is now campaining for a "christmas train" (whatever the heck that is - it's a train! Why the "christmas" label?) to put up on one of the ledges...

Julie,
sounds like you have steady improvement going on there, hopefully they will be able to leave the ventilator off tonight...

Tracy,
Hopefully things will get better. I know when the fiance's stepdad died last year he took it very hard - the man was really more like his "real" dad, and although the death was somewhat expected (cancer) it still was a rough time... I understand that holidays are the worst time as well, especially the first holiday after a death, so I am sure your wife will need lots of love and attention in the next few months...
