Roy is off the oxygen mask and it just on the in your nose oxygen.

His pneumothorax is getting better - chest tube will probably come out tomorrow.

Pneumonia is getting better too.

He remains in good spirits and drank almost 1/4 gallon of orange juice.  Got a huge smile on his face while he was drinking.

He only had 3 hours of dialysis today - may go back to 4.5 hours tomorrow - it's a decision everyday on if he's dialysis will be long or short.  The on call doctor told me today that it looks like he'll start weaning down to 2 hours a day very very soon - as in this week sometime.

Love,
Julie

Julie, good news again. Hang in there.

To all, Mrs. VT was dismissed yesterday; unfortunately, there is an issue concerning excess drainage from the incision, etc., which resulted in her being readmitted this morning; I'm told she will be in the hospital for around two to three days while they try to figure this out. Over the day or so she was out, I became an expert in removing/replacing the dressings over the incision site. As to everything else, it is continuing to go well.

I've been very pleased with the emails over the weekend, Julie. Sounds like things are lookin' up and that is great news!

Expert wound nurse, huh, Vaughn. I'll bet you don't accept insurance are very expensive! Does Mrs. VT need a warning, or at least full disclosure?

I'm sorry she needed to go back but if that's where she needs to be then we'll all need more patience. Bet she is the most disappointed!

Thank you both for the updates.

Yeah, Linda, very expensive. :-)

The good news is that there is no sign of any infection and the tissue on both sides of the incision appears healthy. It's just that the drainage is so much; generally, the dressing is soaked through within two hours or so after it is changed, sooner if she has been up moving around, a bit longer if all she does is stay down. So, back to the hospital, and a bit of disappointment on my wife's part. They said something about a wound vacuum pump, so that may be in our future; I'm still trying to sort it all out.

VT, I'm an experienced wound vacuum pump operator, of course.
Experienced but mediocre.
Really, Dad had one.
It is a good thing.

Good to see you guys after being gone so long. Linda and Julie, I'm still so sorry I missed the cleaning and cooking day and left the jobs to you all. VT, sorry I havent been keeping up, but I'm sure glad the Mrs. is doing better, even if she had to go back in. I bet you are a fine nurse. Julie, sounds like your Mountain Man is getting better, even if it is uneven progress. He has a lot of reasons to get better, and so does Vaughn's wife.

Tracy, so you're the expert with whom to consult?

lh, good to hear from you, too. As to my nursing qualifications, well, let's just say I'm not giving up my day job any time soon.

longhorn, glad you're back! Missed you.

As longhorn said once -- there is something about becoming quite familiar with nursing as we get older. Oh well, we all gotta be good for something and it keeps us off the streets. And what could be better than caring for someone!?

Julie,

Thank you for the update. I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Vaughn,

My mom had a similar issue after her surgery for uterine cancer. They ended up using this vacuum pump wound sealer which worked wonders(large incision was nearly completely healed in about a week and a half).

Granted, I don't know much more than what I just said above, and I'd guess the doctors and nurses would know if such a piece of equipment would work in this situation. No matter, I'll also continue to keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers.

Danny, thank you for the information; it sounds like from talking to the wife about 3 that they've started the pump management, and that's likely the way it will be going. It's my impression that the doctor wants to see if it will work as expected, plus wants a chance to see if there's something else going on, thus the hospitalization.

I hope I'm making some sense here; kind of tired right now.

And, my friends, it's off to the hospital I ride, hoping to gain some clarification on what's going on, what to expect, etc., knowing I've laundry to do when I get home (don't ask why, you really don't want to know).
