Roy is on dialysis 3 times a week (MWF) and is urinating on his own - he produced 700 cc's Monday night, over 1000 cc's on Tuesday and over 1000 cc's today.
Looks like kidneys are coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He should start a more intensive physical therapy sometime this week hopefully getting up to walk next week. The rabdo (muscle breakdown) did a number on him - he lost a ton of muscle.
He's starting to whine and all so we're seeing progress. He's tired of being cooped up. I've been teasing him that on the ride home he's gonna stick his head out the window like a puppy.
Love,
Julie

Julie, keep the good news coming.
Mrs. VT was seen by her doctor yesterday afternoon; tests are being run. Good news was that her temperature dropped 2 degrees in 2 hours. New prescriptions, antibiotics, etc. There does exist the potential for hospitalization, depending upon the test results (although doctor is optimistic). Also, a hematoma formed post surgery (apparently), which is now breaking up, in the words of the doctor, which is draining happily. He drained some excess fluid from her abdominal area in the office yesterday, and, all in all, she's feeling much, much better this morning.
If any of you need to get out in the next few hours, be careful; it's beginning to get slick in spots out there.

Yes, PLEASE be careful. STAY OFF of elevated roads.
We stuck to the city streets, which takes us twice as long to get my daughter to work at 32nd and Rock, and it took us 15 minutes longer than that, thanks to traffic backed up and a train. We could see accidents on 135 from our route on Pawnee headed east, all the way to Woodlawn. Nasty, nasty, nasty. And some people were obviously born with no sense.
VT, that's good news on the wife. I'm glad they're keeping a close eye on her and doing what they can to make this eaiser and more comfortable for her.
Prayers continue for her and for MM, who seems to be quickly gaining ground. Hooray!

Well that sounds cautiously optimistic, Vaughn, which is better than bad news. I know her needs will be carefully monitored and addressed. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
Julie, I laughed out loud at the mental image of MM with his head and upper body out the car window, tongue hanging out...
Wayne called about 7:45 a.m. after the daily trek across town on Kellogg to say there were about 25 - 30 damaged cars sitting along that mostly elevated road. Will they ever learn??

Like Rox, I stick to the city streets (well, I do this even when the weather isn't bad; it seems just as quick to work for me, and I don't need to worry about the idiots). It wasn't too bad, but the flow of traffic off Kellogg onto Douglas on the major North/South streets (Oliver, Hillside) slowed everyone down, bearing witness to the treacherous mess that is Kellogg in icy weather. That's OK; I'd rather be a bit "behind" than sitting on the side waiting for a traffic control officer. I just wish those who don't travel Douglas daily would pay attention to the warning signs West of East High, and not try to force their way into the outside lane when, just as warned, the inside lane is closed all the way to Hydraulic. Plus, it would be nice if these folks paid attention to the speed limit signs (no, 60 is not the limit on Douglas; 35 is, to Washington, then 30); and please, leave the telephone calls for later.
Linda, until you posted your mental image, I'd not given it any thought; now, I cannot get it from my mind (you left out MM's sniffing the air while hanging out the window....).

Roy called last night and was giving me a list of what to bring today. He gets to take a shower today!!!!!!!! First shower in a month. They've got a special shower chair and a walk in shower and he's so excited.

Julie, although the length of time before a shower was allowed is not comparable at all, I remember a similar call from Mrs. VT the day after Thanksgiving. She was (as it sounds MM is) ecstatic. Given his length of stay, he might be in there for the bulk of the day, which will be a fact causing great consternation with the nurses; from what I heard (hearsay only), Mrs. VT enjoyed the shower for quite a bit of time, which for whatever reason, gave concern to the nursing staff. I could have told them that was going to happen, had they just asked.....

I'm sure we'll have great consternation from our nurses as I shall be assisting in the showering process.
(Yes I will be wearing my bathing suit during this process.)
I have a feeling he'll want to soap up several times just for the joy of it. He wanted several bath washes and his shampoo and conditioner and back scrubber - pretty much the entire bathroom with the exception of a rubber ducky.
He's gonna be in there longer than a teenager!

well shower got called off due to nurse saying dialysis catheter can't get wet.
They're talking about maybe 86ing dialysis since urine output and labs are going so well.
Maybe we'll shower on Saturday.

Julie, hopefully you will be able to get him in the shower soon. As Vaughn said, not much basis for comparison, but after I had my C-section it was almost four days before they let me shower - And I had my mom and my cousin in there (because my mom was afraid i would fall) and I have to tell you, that was the first time in four days i felt human...
Had to go to court this morning over the monsters dad (it's a long story that you really don't want to hear) I take K96 to my son's daycare, which really wasn't slick at all, as long as the people in front of you weren't slamming on their brakes to slow down to 20 (which as you know happens here in KS) But after hearing the radio reports decided to take city streets down to the courthouse. So I came down Central (from 37th and Woodlawn) and I have never seen such a group of idiots in my life i swear - i got stuck behind this minivan who wanted to go 20 (come on, it wasn't THAT slick out) but couldn't make up their mind if they wanted to go 20 in the left lane or the right lane. So they are in the left lane in front of me, then turn on their turn signal to move into the right lane, realize there is a truck there, whose front end is about at the middle of their van, so do they speed up the extra two miles an hour to get in front of the truck (it was clear in front of the truck)? Hell no, we are going to swerve back into the left lane, hit our brakes so that we are now dead EVEN with the truck, turn our turn signal on AGAIN and try to move over. They finally sped up enough to get in front of the truck and immediately hit their brakes once they did so. How they didn't cause an accident I will never know... I don't understand what it is about drivers in town that as soon as it gets CLOUDY outside they have to lose all sense of reason and forget how to drive! i think we probably woulnd't have about 2/3 of the accidents we have in inclement weather if people would just DRIVE!

I had to laugh Wendy! This noon I delivered a crock pot of soup to MindScapes. This was way after there was nothing slick any longer. But, I had to do everything slowly or slop soup. So, for the short time I was on 13th Street, always in the outside lane, there were three cars who hurried up behind me, slammed on their brakes, rode my bumper for a bit (I think to 'encourage' me ;-)) before quickly going around me and glaring at me when they got even with my vehicle. I know they thought I was being careful because of the weather. Anyway, the soup made it and it was honestly only about FIVE blocks that I drove well under the 40 mph speed limit. At NO time was the inside lane blocked - each car could have easily gone around me without the theatrics!

I traveled Pawnee to Woodlawn, up to 21st, over to Rock and up to 32nd and back. Except for being wet, the roads were fine. Now, the drivers out there were a different story. But the crazies were out last night when I took the same route home, after an accident on 96 that I decided to avoid on the way home. Some idiot in a big red pickup decided to pull out from a side street, and I had to slam on my brakes to keep from hitting him. More dumb@sses were out, right along with.
According to KFDI, the precipitation has pretty much ended and many roads are beginning to dry. Still a few slick spots on the elevated, so I'll take the long way and play it safe. Not that the city streets are "safe". Far from it, as we've all seen today.

See Linda,
I don't mind people who drive slowly in the right hand lane. It's the people in the left hand lane that are going 20 miles under the speed limit who annoy the heck out of me... it's the PASSING lane for a reason, after all (and yes, it does actually SAY that in the driver's manual for Kansas - had a debate with a coworker over that one day... I won :) ). And I don't even mind driving a little bit cautiously when it is slick out - it's the people driving like they are lost in a blizzard and continually hitting their brakes on ice (because that does you a WHOLE lot of good and is definitely going to keep you from getting in an accident... okay, sarcasm off now) when there are three snowflakes falling out of the sky that just drive me nuts (and that's not to say they are any better when there ISN'T inclement weather outside, Rox... )
