That's a lot of Mondays, Trace. I sure hope you're still feeling quite mediocre.

It's a beeeeeutiful day here in Kakeland! I think me and Ginger will take an extraordinarily long walk.

Then I need to clean the guest room, fresh linens, current reading material, some flowers because Chad arrives Friday! Gathering my chicks and their chicks.

A bittersweet comment; last night was the Renaissance Faire at TIMS, an annual program involving the 8th graders. I stopped by at the request of the Principal to pick up some stuff for Mrs. VT. I'd tried to make it before the students would be arriving, but...

The happiness of the students in seeing me there, which meant Mrs. VT was surely there, turned to disappointment when I (as gently as I could) told them that Mrs. VT would not be attending. While I was happy that her presence was desired, I really felt horrible in telling them that she wasn't there. Sometimes being an adult isn't all it should be.

Any word on that appointment that might evaluate the release date? Were you able to tell Mrs. VT how badly she is missed and loved without tears by either you, her or both? Does she feel stronger and well? Answer only those you choose!

Ya know, you got to glow in the love they feel for awhile until you had to go disappoint them! Small pleasures?

Linda, no word yet on the appointment; logic tells me it should be happening soon (I've a feeling that the holidays may get in the way a bit). She's feeling much stronger and better. On telling her about the inquiries of the students, her response was "well, they should have realized that".

I know she's feeling much better, as she was watching the KU-GT basketball game, and making her normal comments, gripes, etc. Our younger, who is a big KU basketball fan, was watching her first "live" game all the way through as well for the season (due to other commitments, she'd only been able to see "live" bits and pieces of other nationally broadcast games), and while the last few minutes were nerve wracking, enjoyed it.

This year it seems 'tis the season to be sick.

All four grandkids are having or have had something. I'm keeping the pre-Ker home today, as she's feeling warm, and I don't think the digital thermometer is working right. (Where or where is that old glass one?!)

My mom's in surgery right now. She called last night and was upset. Some doctor who checked her out when she went into the hospital last night pretty much told her that he doubted she'd make it through the surgery, considering her heart condition. He thought she should have had the heart surgery before the colon (cancer) surgery. But her regular heart doctor said colon first. I believe there will be a heart doctor in the OR this A.M., and my mom is a fighter. Stubborn German. >g<

VT, glad to hear Mrs. VT is doing well and that the kids miss her. They'll be happy to see her "next year", after the holidays, I'm sure.

Linda, sounds like excitement it brewing in your house. :) Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas together!

Rox,

I remember when you said your Mom would be having surgery but surely I didn't know the details until now? You must be on pins and needles! Please (if you have time) keep us updated. And anything else that would help you call or write or ask, PLEASE!

The youngest in our family was 10 yesterday. Sickness still happens but everyone is old enough to tell us exactly where it hurts and soon enough and that helps nip illness in the bud. The Spoons have a couple on medicine and I'm never surprised when Chad comes home needing rest and care -- he burns the candle at both ends and doesn't slow down! He is one of those "weight of the world on his shoulders" types. That young man doesn't have the good sense God gave a goose!

Vaughn, of course I was watching the game too! I like blowouts better...

Andrew came yesterday afternoon and spent several hours catching Grandma up with his life. He will be studying abroad first semester of next year. Where is not final yet but looks like Florence, Italy. And Whitman is helping him get a summer job. Looks like they have an opening in Boston and are close to nailing it down. He is very excited about staying with Uncle Chad and saving even more of his earnings! What a lot of excitement in his young life. He has changed and matured since leaving home and yet still is Grandma's boy. That kid does have the sense God gave a goose (knows who to keep on his side ;-) ).

So far we have mostly managed to dodge the sick bullet. The monster had his three year check today and got his flu shot (he did great, no tears, no screaming, nothing, just sat there...) they gave us the option of the inhaled version, which i was going to do, until the dr mentioned that he couldn't be around people with compromised immune systems for 10 days, and what with my aunt who just started chemo and my cousin who just finished chemo, and knowing they will likely be at Christmas, I figured the shot was the better route this time...

I just got back after taking Boo to the Dr. He has a cold and an inner ear infection.

Rox - can I go smack the doctor who visited your mom last night and had NO bedside manner? What an idiot!!!

MM didn't get his shower yesterday - he got too wore out by physical therapy. He did sit on the edge of the bed unassisted for about 20 minutes and he did try to stand up. They had a special machine that pulls you up. He wasn't able to get to far before it really started hurting (the waist strap rode up and lodged under his armpits) but he did get about a foot off the bed. I was semi-pleased with that.

Linda - I'll let y'all know something when I hear. I'm in the "no news is good news" mood right now. She's 85 and has beaten cancer before, more than once. I don't think that's the concern. But I have faith in her reg. heart doctor to know what's best, and this was his decision.

She's just moved down to the Clearwater Retirement Center this past month. She likes it so much better there than she did anywhere here in Wichita, because she knows people. I visited Sunday and saw a few I knew, too. Shoot, when I was 12 and we moved to Clearwater, I believed I was related to about half the town. LOL Now it's probably down to 1/3 or 1/4.

If I need anything (and I hope I don't), I'll let you know. Thanks mucho.

Julie - Yes, you may smack the doc. Or hold him while I smack him. I wasn't too pleased when she told me about it last night. It really did upset her, and this is a woman who's had more surgeries than she can remember!

Before I forget...

Linda, I went ahead and purchased a video converter program, afraid I wouldn't have a clue what I was doing. As it turned out, it worked great! I do appreciate your offer, and I'll definitely keep you and MindScapes in mind in the future. I never know who's going to want what that I'm completely clueless about. LOL

when we get Dave/Reuben's website up and running, I'll post the link. It was so much fun to do! Lots of work and new stuff to learn, but the feeling of satisfaction is well worth it.

Just back from some frantic last minute shopping. Crowds weren't too bad, lots of good buys and traffic around Towne East moved even if very slowly.

Rox sure hope by this time your mom is out of surgery and doing fine. It amazes me that we go full circle from being mothered to mothering those who took care of us. My mom is so independent but worries us all because she absolutely refuses to leave her home for a care facility. I think we have a lot of doctors who spend way to much time talking and not enough time listening.

Julie glad MM is making some progress. I remember the first time they made me walk after my knee replacements I thought they probably tortured people in their spare time. They have this machine they put your leg in if you aren't up and in therapy. It alternately pulls and bends your leg all of the time. I just kept telling myself this is helping me.

Linda you sound as involved with your grandkids as I am. My kids didn't have that so we resolved to be the best grandparents possible. We might have overdone because our kids tell us we are way to indulgent.

ksgrm, to bring you kinda up-to-date on MM - this all started with a knee replacement. He went from the hospital following that surgery to the rehab hospital to home and his recovery was going well (including many an hour on that move the knee contraption you mention!) until MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) sent him into some days when his survival was in question. Its been a long haul and great strides to get him to where he is. Many celebrations -- off the ventilator, off dialysis were among them. There really hasn't been a time to evaluate where he is with that new knee since sitting on the bed is a triumph. This was a synopsis but wanted you to know where they've been so you could appreciate where they are.

I am close to all but four of my grandchildren. My youngest daughter doesn't like me and I don't have a part of her life or her four children's lives. It isn't something I talk about and I am not asking for sympathy, just telling you one of my crosses to bear. We all have them, don't we!? I also have many blessings. I try to concentrate on those most days but slip at times into allowing myself to wallow around in that puddle of pity. Does NO good and I don't go there often. My older daughter has five children (four sons and a daughter) and my younger son has a daughter too. Six out of ten -- I am blessed! My older son isn't married except to his work but maybe someday if a woman who is willing to share comes along. Shoot, maybe a woman who takes his mind right off his work will happen along.

Thanks for the update. I didn't remember what started MM's problem but thought it was a staph infection. They can be vicious.

Glad to hear about the great relationships with GK's. I never had a daughter - 3 sons - and am very close to my 16 year old GD. At times I think she says things to see if i'm shockable. I try not to be. We have great communications. Taking her to get her drivers license tomorrow.

My middle son was 29 before marrying and he is the best husband and father of the three. He is a computer tech and just didn't have time. Loves his family time now. He lives in Virginia and we don't see his family often enough. Other two are around here and work in the company business. My youngest thinks he should be my alarm clock and calls at 6:30 every morning. We found a new message to put on the machine and are going to let him go there when he calls tomorrow.

It says "We aren't here to take your call because we are making some changes in our lives. Leave a number at the beep and if we don't call you back you are one of the changes" He has a great sense of humor and will appreciate that.

ksgrm, good one!

Linda, to respond to your query on WEBlog about facing the spam filter. I'm doing it here, rather than there, as I think I'm not going to post there today due to the issues.

Yesterday, I was faced with the verification screen every time I posted; nothing that anyone else hasn't dealt with. However, on three occasions, with a multi-paragraph post, I went through the process multiple times, and each time it refused my post. While others are breaking their longer responses into parts (I actually tried that once, but I guess even part one that time was too long), I've decided that for now, public expression of my opinions just isn't worth the extra time and hassle.

It seems that there is a length "trigger" in the algorithm. It is said brevity is the soul of wit, and I guess the message here is that I'm not witty. :-) Just as well today; much to do, and I've seemingly contracted an upper respiratory virus, which makes getting things done even more of a chore than normal. So, I well might be MIA for most of today, either from working, or just saying the heck with it and going home to bed.

VT, sorry to hear you're under the weather. We're still battling it here, too. G-kids are hacking and blowing, youngest daughter is the same. Thankfully I'm down to an occasional cough and breathing is better. Hope yours is over and done with quickly, with no residuals and that Mrs.VT stays faaaarrrr away from you. (Just kidding.)

I had a call from my mom's doctor this a.m. right after I found the number to the hospital. The surgery went fine. A sizeable tumor on the colon was removed that did affect some lymph nodes, so chemo will probably come later. They're watching heart and lungs in ICU as a precaution. She forgot to take her meds with her, so now I'm supposed to run to Clearwater (40 mile round trip), then take the meds up to the hospital in Andover (another 40 mile round trip). It's amazing that people think if you work at home, you can drop everything and run errands. I'm offering a work-around. A friend who lives in Clearwater will pick up the meds at the retirement center and take them to work with her tomorrow, where I'll pick them up and take them to the hospital. I truly don't think one day missed with glaucoma meds will do any damage. Needless to say, I'm a bit miffed.

As I always say, my time is not my own. Maybe I should ask Santa for some extra? >g<

Rest is important and it really does seem to be one of the ways to best deal with the "what's going around."

You are witty! Until you lapse into your native language you are always very clear, reasoned and informative too!

Remember at the meetup (almost a year ago?) when Philip said there were changes coming? Am I remembering wrongly? Sure hope these aren't what he was talking about.

I still can only read there for brief periods although I think it has improved recently. Disagreeing on ideas, having your say on public figures, holding differing opinions never bothers me, but when a poster attacks (even slightly) another poster I am outta there. Even tho some posters can't be quiet and ignore the taunts, they don't deserve to be made fun of! It's the way we behaved as children and it was something we needed to leave behind as we matured.

Now, skipping rope, giggling, allowing sugarplums to dance in our heads, pure happiness, wonder, love and acceptance? Those things are what life is made of! Maybe when life begins to be closer to the end than the beginning we realize how many things we should have enjoyed, how few things we really needed to take very seriously.

Rox, sure wish we would hear from you! The not hearing causes concern.

Thank YOU, Linda!

Sorry for the rant. Maybe I got up on the wrong side of the bed. If only I could crawl back in... Trouble is, I wouldn't get back up again. LOL

I had problems a couple of days ago with the other blog accepting a post. It took three tries at the funky numbers and letters, and I was sure I had them right the first time. 'Tis best to keep to reading and the often scroll-overs. There are those I don't bother with anymore, because it's the same old stuff. I refuse to get into a shouting, name-calling match.

Oh, and I'll be making those trips for the meds after all. Seems they won't release them to anyone but me. Good grief.
