ISN'T THERE ANYONE?

OTHER STUFF

Isn't there anyone who knows what the meaning of Christmas is about?

(Clearing throat....In my best Linus Van Pelt voice)

"I'll tell you the meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown."

"And there were shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night, and lo the angel of the lord came upon them and the glory of the lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid, and the angel said unto them, fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior who is Christ the Lord. And suddenly there was with the angels a multitude of the heavenly hosts, praising God and saying, Glory to God in highest heaven and peace on earth god will to men."

That's the meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown.

And best to you and yours, Tracy (as always).

Reading the excerpt from the Gospel of St. Luke which Linus reads to Charlie Brown brings back many memories. Once upon a time, I was young (I know, hard to believe, but it is true) and a "precocious reader". For four or five years (memory fails on this one), it was my role in the annual school Christmas program to read those words (and a few more from the same source) to begin the program. I had them memorized (almost) "back in the day". Hey, it beat learning a new part every year!

I read them at the high school Christmas assembly, too, VT. Junior or senior year, although I forget which one. Probably the latter.

Tracy, you have a wonderful Christmas, in spite of whether others know the *true* meaning or not. Wishing you and yours the very best this holiday season.

I'll be leaving in a bit to do my Christmas shopping. I'm hoping the procrastinating will bring me good luck. Or something.

Wishing all on the board a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy family, the great food, don't overdo on the candy and above all remember why we celebrate Christmas.

It is sad that the true meaning of christmas has been lost in commercialism. Such is progress, i suppose.

We have been trying to explain the meaning of Christmas to my son, but he is a bit young to understand yet. The most he understands at this point is that once Santa comes, it is his birthday. We tried. At least I know he goes to church every other weekend, (I have asked dad NUMEROUS times to take him, and even told him if he didn't want to go, I would come get him, take him to church and bring him back, all to no avail... it's going to become a big issue here soon, because when I agreed to weekend visitation, he agreed to take him to church every week.) and he knows three prayers, working our way up to four... I didn't even realize he knew the third one until he just started saying it on his own at bedtime and made it all the way through with only minor errors...

Wish us luck at attending midnight mass this year as well... always a large crowd, which amazes me, and the monster does not do well in unfamiliar churches we have discovered...

Wendy a tradition at my home growing up was reading the Luke version of the birth of Christ. This is a great tradition. We always talk about the real meaning of Christmas before opening gifts. My grandkids aren't as young as your son but he will begin to understand it a little more each year. Someone once explained it to me as 'God loved us so much that he sent his only son to earth and just as the shepherds and kings gave baby Jesus gifts because they loved him so much, we give each other gifts because we love each other and this is how we share a small part of our love for Jesus.

Hope everyone has a beautiful Christmas. It looks to be a white one. My grandson is supposed to fly into night at 11pm. Pray with me that he makes it and has a safe trip.
