FIRST POST OF THE YEAR !

OPEN THREADS

2008 Contract

-----
After serious & cautious consideration.....your
contract of friendship has been renewed for the New Year 2008.

It was a very hard decision to make. So try not to mess it up!

May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet of $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires and may happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy. May the problems you had forget your home address! In simple words ......

MAY 2008 BE ONE OF THE BEST YEARS YET!

Well I suppose you want us to renew your contract now! hmmmm?
oh, well I suppose
:)

Hope everyone had a safe and joyous celebration! Chick and I celebrated early (at 8). We did the countdown and toasted with sparkling grape juice and popped fireworks (party poppers). The face Mouse made when she tasted the bubbly was priceless. But she sure got the hang of it and wanted more!

MM actually stood on his own two legs for about 30 seconds on Monday. He's been able to transfer from his bed to a wheelchair using a slide board. Friday and Sunday he had help, Monday he did it on his own.
Much progress is being made. Still in the hospital but that's ok for now (now that he's finally making serious progress).

Julie, good to hear that progress, regardless of how slow it seems, is still occurring with MM.

At least you had a "celebration"; at the appropriate time I was snuggled in my bed, fast asleep.

Tracy, glad to know my contract has been renewed.

QUICK CATH-UP.
Julie, VeeTee, great news about your spouse's improving conditions!
Wendy, I'm glad the puppy is a hit.

Linda, sounds like you're a hit with the girls!

Ksgrm, glad you're hanging out.

I tried to read all my new comments, but time is short. If I missed sumpin' spectacular let me know.

My holiday recap:
Spent the entire time sick, stomach distress.
Not much excitement. Problee the poorest christmas I've seen, but the kids did OK.
The wife did her yearly New Years Party for the daughter, a lock-in at the church. 17 teenage girls.
I spent the eve with my dog, much calmer!

Gotta play catch-up at work.
Later, Tracy

Those two girls are so sweet and well behaved. Only problem I found was I wore out more quickly than I had imagined. Remember the good ole days? Best thing about them was that I wasn't old and I wasn't good. (Got that line in an email and it was too good not to share!)

Good to see our contracts renewed. I like the perks. So sorry you were sick Tracy! Are you better now?

I too was asleep as the new year arrived but fireworks in the neighborhood roused me briefly. I cooked enough black eyed peas and cornbread to feed a small army and Wayne & I made a tiny dent in the too big pot. You'd think a woman my age could cook appropriate sized portions.

I want to change my email address - same letters and stuff before the @ and just make it gmail.com after. I sent an email to Dave and Aaron so maybe they can advise how I make that change. Probably very simple as most things over my head seem to be. Could y'all change your records too?

I have to use my old email address in order to keep my fat cat. I clicked around trying to find an "edit" place without luck. I did see where Aaron has been playing with a program called PhotoBooth. I've had fun with that too!

I don't think I want to make a new account, just edit the old one. Hope that's possible.

Linda, send out an email with the new addy and everbuddy can just save it from there.

Yes, I'm beginning to feel better.
I must have evolved into a workaholic.
When I'm not at work I feel like a fish outa water.

Our New Year was alright. We had some friends and their kiddos over. The monster was in bed by 9 (still late for him, but pretty good I thought all things considered) and the other kids actually made it to midnight. We spent most of the evening playing the new Monopoly with debit cards (I got it for christmas, we are board game freaks :) ) and one of our friends has a karaoke machine he brought over so we spent a while making ourselves look ridiculous as well... it was a good time. Of course, it was after two by the time we got everyone out and got to bed, and naturally the monster woke up a 7 on new years day so I am still trying to catch up on my sleep :)... The job hunt for the fiance appears to be going better, he had an interview friday, and a potential job offer in the works, he talked to the company this morning and they want him to come in sometime either this week or next Monday, depending on how their schedule works out, and spend a couple of hours checking things out and seeing if he thinks it will "fit" him career wise. The job sounds great. the downside is he will have to spend 14 weeks in KC for training, only being able to come home on the weekends, and of course the wedding is 13 weeks away - but they told him that weekend wouldn't be a problem for him to have extra time off, and we would just postpone the honeymoon until April or so...

Wendy, glad there is some good news. You guys have had enough worrisome news!

This post is kinda a test. That very nice Dave said he changed my email address so we'll see if I get my fat cat back and all is well.

Tracy, I will send out that mass email from the new address.

I probably need to change my email address, too. :< When googling my name, I discovered a couple of my posts here. Probably not too good for "business", since not everyone likes us libs. LOL

Sorry to have been missing, and right now I'm twiddling my thumbs while waiting on tech support for one of my client's websites.

Tracy and VT, sorry to hear you spent NYE not feeling well. Hope you're both bettter now. As for the rest of you, sounds like you all had a nice time. We did the family thing. Remind me NOT to play drinking games again, okay? The nicest thing was that my very bestest friend for 44 years joined us in ringing in the new this year. Other than that, 2008 doesn't feel a bit different than 2007 did. Still, there's hope! >grin<

Rox, I gave drinking games up decades ago; you young folks, I just don't know what the world is coming to. :-) I'm feeling better, thank you, just trying to assemble the priorities of things that didn't get done while feeling less than well, and, hoping the power doesn't go off again. Someone on the floor has a space heater that's tripping the breaker that affects my office and computer, and I'm beginning to get a bit tired of the power going off. I'm wondering if the power outages have done something to the blower on the zone HVAC, as it's beginning to get a bit cool here, and there's no evidence of warm air coming through the vents....

Here's an email I received. I decided his own words were better than any I could come up with.

Hey Linda,

Yeah I'm learning to use Gmail too.

Hey I need ANOTHER favor.

I am in touch with Julie. She suggested I post my intentions on Tracy's blog.

Well I have never figured out how to post there. I did get ONE up once.

So....Tell those folks on the other blog that Jay (J R) is thinking of putting together a trip up to Julie's this weekend to help her out. I can take my Dad's truck and carry 3.

I emailed Mike XXX and Steven and Capn America but I haven't heard back yet.

Jay

Julie, I've seen the email from JR, and if it was another weekend, I'd be able to help out; however, plans for me have been made for the weekend, so I've got to graciously decline.

Hey thanks Linda.

Yup I am recruiting volunteers. Sunday looks like a nice day in the 60's. Julie can tell you more about the project. Apparently no heavy lifting. Nothing terribly complicated. I think her words were "If you can stack legos you can do this."

Well legos have changed a whole lot since I was a kid but I'm still game. I tend to catch hell on the other blog for doing stuff like this so I have not posted about it there. No end of ankle biters and what ends they will go to.

Now it's a bit of a drive up there. SO, I'll be glad to take 2 or 3 who want to go. Or you can join me up there.

I THINK I have reading and posting here figured out. SO you can answer here or reach me at the email on the post. It is not my "main" email but please do not share. I got no end of "fans" over on WE that would like to send me a friendly greeting.

So anybody game?

Jay

Jay (and Julie), let me see what's going on this weekend. The contractors are putting my daughter's house back together after the fire, and we still have tons of boxes of my mom's stuff to go through in daughter's garage (not burned or smoke damaged). If they decide we MUST DO SOMETHING, I don't particularly want to deal with my son-in-law by skipping out on them. >sigh< Sometimes being a parent is more like being a child.

Oh, and if I AM free, I may take you up on the ride offer. I don't think we live that far from each other. I'll get back to you on all as soon as I can.

Glad you got the posting figured out Jay! I don't think there is any way we can "get" a posters email addy from their posts. But don't trust me on that since I'm very UNtechie. Does someone else know? Keep us informed on the particulars -- day and time. I've been there so could direct or lead or... I am a total klutz (probably stack the legos upside down or something worse) but I can fetch, keep two little girls busy, take orders, something.

Yeah I think I got it now linda.

Rox? Your daughter had a fire? I'm sorry. Well, if you are free, I'll be glad to bring you along.

Sunday looks like the better and warmer day. I asked Mary without any specifics. But I think she is working this weekend. I will let her know more tomorrow when I do.

If we don't make it this weekend Vaughn, I'll keep you in mind.

Oh and I see the emails are not put on here.

Well, I mostly have email out to anyone who doesn't usually post here so far as I know. And we have the word out here.

Forgive me for not putting the word out on the WEblog Julie. Last time I did that, a couple of chuckleheads over there made me the topic for the day.
That aint helpful to anyone. Besides, I can reach most of the people I need to without doing that.

When I did mention it a few weeks ago, Capn expressed an interest. I've not heard back from him and he hasn't much posted today.

Tomorrow we will know more.

Thanks, Jay. The closer it gets to the weekend, the more I'll know. :)

Okay, everyone, I have something to share. VT, this might interest your wife, too. Have any of you heard of Pandora? It's a website where you create your own "radio stations" by choosing artists or songs. It creates playlists or stations from your choices. If you don't like a song, you can give it a thumbs down, and it won't play again.

If you spend time at the computer and like music in the background, but don't like some of the music on your favorite radio station, this is for you!

http://www.pandora.com And, yes, it's free!!!

Here's the info on how this started.

The Music Genome Project®

On January 6, 2000 a group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever.

Together we set out to capture the essence of music at the most fundamental level. We ended up assembling literally hundreds of musical attributes or "genes" into a very large Music Genome. Taken together these genes capture the unique and magical musical identity of a song - everything from melody, harmony and rhythm, to instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, lyrics, and of course the rich world of singing and vocal harmony. It's not about what a band looks like, or what genre they supposedly belong to, or about who buys their records - it's about what each individual song sounds like.

Since we started back in 2000, we've carefully listened to the songs of tens of thousands of different artists - ranging from popular to obscure - and analyzed the musical qualities of each song one attribute at a time. This work continues each and every day as we endeavor to include all the great new stuff coming out of studios, clubs and garages around the world.

It has been quite an adventure, you could say a little crazy - but now that we've created this extraordinary collection of music analysis, we think we can help be your guide as you explore your favorite parts of the music universe.

We hope you enjoy the journey.

Tim Westergren
Founder
The Music Genome Project

Linda, I'm listening to the Everly Brothers and other artists and songs that have the same type/quality. Pretty cool!

Good night, all!
