Hmmmm, well, the name of this thread fits me. I am definitely no category. :)
For those who want to take a peek at Dave Madden's (Reuben Kincaid on the Partridge Family) website, it went live on Saturday. (Tracy, here's your chance to leave him a message on his blog. >g<) It's fairly small, but has some great photos, and we plan to change those often. And check out the video, if you have Flash on your 'puter.

Julie, sorry about yesterday. A website I designed and maintain for a writers' group of about 400 members in PA has been having problems, and they just opened registration for their yearly conference! NOT a good time to do this. The problem hit its peak early yesterday morning, so I was tied up with that. (The problem was not caused by me!) Just call me Rosanna Rosannadanna. It's always something.

I'll check that out Rox and then come back with questions, probably. That's me -- questions! If I ever have a nic that's what it should be.
I read (or at minimum scan fairly carefully) EVERY word of our morning paper. I have the time, I take the time, I know much of it isn't worth reading but I do it anyway. Usually columns by Leonard Pitts fall into the scan category as I don't find them interesting. This morning his column did keep my interest and I think he wrote good words worth reading. Have a look if you missed it:

Well Chick needed to go to Walmart so we could get batteries for her new digital camera she got for her b-day. (it's a $20 rinkydink one but she LOVES it)
Anyway the batteries were near the books and I had to take a look around. Lo and Behold there was the brand new release by my favorite local author and it was even autographed!!! Family By Design was a joyful romp of a read that kept me up past my bedtime. I couldn't put it down - I had to read all of it.
Rox's signature sweet romance had a bit of spice thrown in it compared to her past novels (the result of a snowstorm in the book) but it was a very enjoyable read and kept my mind off some of my troubles for a while.
WAY TO GO ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, Linda, I'm clueless about so much, my nic should be the same.
Good article! Pitts is 100% on all. I can't say that I'm one who embraces fear though. Not my cup of tea. But I think we've said more than once on here that fear works very well to get others to do your bidding. And that doesn't mean being taken into a room and tortured, as there are all kinds of fear.
Now, if I could just think of a way to use that to my advantage...

Sounds as if all have been busy. Julie glad to see progress on MM's comeback. He sounds like a tough one. I wasn't nearly as tough when I just had a knee replacement with no problems.
Been out of town a lot. In for a few days and out again on Friday. Playing catchup. Hubbie bought me a laptop for Christmas because we are gone so much. Helps me keep up on things when we are away.
Hope all have a prosperous and happy New Year. I am ready for spring but do love the snow when it first comes especially if it covers the ice on the streets. Our neighborhood looked like the site of a demolition derby when we returned. Two stopsigns and one speed limit sign down. Ditches torn up where people went off the road. Glad I was out of town.
Rox I'll have to look for your new book. Will be able to read it as we travel this week.
Linda you sound like me. I read a book, magazine or newspaper the same way you do. I'm a whiz at trivia because I always read all of those little filler pieces and know things no intelligent human should ever know.
Enjoy life!

Awww, Julie, thanks. I'm glad you liked it. Can I use you for a quote? >g< No, really, can I? I didn't get copies out early to reviewers, so all I have is one from Romantic Times.
I'm sure Chick does love her camera! My oldest g-daughter got one last year and thought it was great. I remember having a little Brownie box camera when I was about 4 and taking it on vacation to Florida. Taking pictures has always been an enjoyment, although I forget to do it now.
Ksgrm, so glad you missed the bad weather. As you saw, it was a mess for a while. I'm glad to have some warm again, so I can thaw. I swear, I need to move to Arizona. Just a hint: If you don't like reading romance, bypass the book. :)

The monster is all about taking pictures right now - we were thinking about getting him one of those kid digital cameras - but then we saw how much they cost! :) Heck, he even conned the portrait lady at Penney's into letting him take a picture when we had his birthday photos done... And it was actually pretty good! He took a couple of pictures of the fiance and I as well, reasonable centered, not too bright, all that good stuff. he might be better at this than me! So now I am searching for a cheap, relatively child proof (meaning that while i eventually expect it to break, hopefully it makes it through the first few drops at least!) camera for the kiddo for his easter basket... i know he will LOVE it!

Wendy, when my oldest got married in May '06, her fiance was deployed in UAE until late February. Planning long distance did NOT go well, as he wanted to be involved, so they pretty much had to wait until he was home again. They managed to pull it together, though, and it was beautiful.
I worked at a photography studio for 3 1/2 years back in the 70's as a wedding consultant, and I've seen all kinds of weddings, small & inexpensive and huge & very expensive. Lots of work went into each one. But the main thing was, people enjoyed themselves, and I think that's the reason we have weddings--to share our joy with others.
Make a list and do something small in those tiny moments that magically appear during the day. Before you know, everything will be done and your wedding day will be a joy. And Linda is right. It's the marriage that's important. I think you're on the right track. :)

I got a laptop too. It's a Mac and I haven't used one for about 15 years so I'm learning all over again. Oh, and, this is my first experience with the touch pad; might have to go buy a mouse to hook to the laptop since I'm so clumsy with the touch pad. Learning was faster 15 years ago. Mainly I've used my laptop for sitting in my easy chair instead of upright at my desk (our house is wireless). Can I get any lazier??
Wendy said:
Linda, isn't that the point of a laptop? :) you might try a wireless mouse instead of a regular corded one - especially if you are sitting in the easy chair :) They are optical, so you could just use the arm of the chair as your surface... I think you can pick one up for pretty cheap anymore - of course, finding one that is Mac compatible may take some searching - but my sister SWEARS by her Mac notebook - she said she will never buy anything but a Mac again... :)

Rox,
Nice website design. While I don't do all that great of work on the artistic side, the coding side I do very good work at. However, I've started messing around with a nifty little CMS manager called Joomla, right now its just seeing what it is capable of. I'd like to see what I could do on my on via contract style work, but to be honest I have no idea where I'd really begin other than what I'm doing now... mess around with things that are out there.
Linda,
Mac's are good computers. I'd recommend a wired mouse over wireless, mostly because I play games on my computer and don't like batteries dying on me at the wrong time. Of course, if you aren't playing online "fragfest" games, then wireless would be a nice choice. This mostly depends on how often you move the computer. If you move it around alot, then wireless is probably the best choice, and if not, then wired would be the better choice.
Wendy,
Photography is something my wife is really breaking into. Based on what I've seen her do, it is mostly take a lot of pictures and pick the best ones. She of course does photo editing as well, uses Adobe Lightroom($300), Photoshop CS2(I don't remember how much it cost me, but it was expensive), and Gimp(free and open source). All of these help to "tweak" the digital picture to correct imperfections.
Becky likes the Nikon cameras, and you can find relatively inexpensive ones from them in their Coolpix lineup. However, if looking for a camera with separate camera body and lens, then that gets more pricey pretty quickly.
Julie,
I commented on the older open thread here, but I'll keep you and MM in my thoughts and prayers. It isn't as though you really need to have added stress or anything.
All,
Here is hoping that everybody had a great holiday. I finally got back, and decided to leave myself completely untethered from the internet, so while I could have accessed it I chose not to for last couple of weeks.

Good to see you back again! You were wise to take a break from the 'net, something I should do at least once a year.
My daughter got a really nice digital(?) SLR 35mm for Christmas last yaer. She took some beautiful photos in Galapagos this summer. And, yes, it takes lots of pix to get the really good ones. :)
Are you good with .php? It nearly drove me crazy setting up a WordPress blog for Dave, as it was relatively new to me. I'm self-taught, started on playing with website stuff about 10 years ago. When I need to learn something, I do, otherwise I keep it simple. It's been a welcome break from writing. Creative, yes, but must use different brain cells...what's left of them, that is. ;)

Hi, Danny, glad to hear you survived the holidays. I need to follow your lead, and impose a restriction on use of the internet upon myself, too; it would likely do wonders for my sanity and efficiency.
Rox said:
Efficiency, yes, VT. Sanity? Uh, probably not, at least for me. The internet has opened up my world and given me friends I wouldn't have had without it. Add information at my fingertips (I do a lot of research) and how it has made me aware of things I wasn't before. Still, a break is sometimes necessary. Withdrawal, however, isn't pleasant.

I've started learning php, but Joomla has afforded me the ability to not even know how to use it and still make a fully functional website. This way I can concentrate on the design work more or less.
http://www.joomla.org
That is the website to see a basic Joomla design from the people that make it, if you are interested. I've found alot of places which do nothing but make templates for it, and there are alot of people who make extensions for it as well. All of which plug in fairly easily.
Vaughn,
I don't know that it did anything for my sanity, but I decided to spend the time with family, friends, and my kids. However, we had a nice time and come sometime in March(17th I believe) we are going to go visit my sister in California and maybe hit up Disneyland while there. I understand the kids will be free based on their current ages(3 and under I understand from my sister), so I only have to pay for Becky and I.
All,
Celeste my eldest is "mostly" potty trained(aka we still have a few accidents, but that is going to happen). We just did it and rewarded her first successful attempt with a "My Little Pony", and now just stickers. My youngest, I think is teething probably much to my wifes dismay.

I'll check out Joomla and see what's up. Thanks! I use Macromedia Dreamweaver for websites. And I dragged my heels on doing it. Foolish me! Old dogs CAN learn new tricks.

Thus far, this is about one day's worth of messing with Joomla so far, is that everything is nearly drop it in and use it. It has an administration side, and then a "user" side. So, my limited time spent with it, says:
1. Easy to use, though perhaps initially a bit difficult to setup if the computer wanting to use and test it on doesn't have php, mysql, and apache already running on it.
2. Have modules and use extensions which are nice to add functionality to it without having to learn php. But because it is open source and written in php, if one knows that can write their own extensions and modules.
3. Fairly extensive community support. From design templates(ranging from free to subscription based), to extensions(again ranging from free to for pay and licensed).
4. Joomla itself is free and open source.
Those are my main points there about it, understand though these are limited as my own experience with it thus far is limited as well.

I feel your pain with the potty training. We are going through the same thing with the monster. He stays totally dry in underwear AT DAYCARE. Home is another story entirely - we have good days and bad days... problem with him is that if you TELL him to go, he goes into the bathroom and goes 9 times out of 10... but he will not volunteer the information that he needs to himself, so if you are not watching the clock and making sure he makes it in there every hour or so then he is going to have an accident... grrrrr... i will be soooooo glad when this is over.... of course by that time i fully expect we will be winding our way up to the next one :) But i would like to have him trained BEFORE we make any more additions to the family...

That was our plan was to have Celeste trained before Savannah arrived, however that didn't happen as Celeste apparently had other thoughts and plans she executed very well. Celeste also sounds similar to yours, she won't volunteer the information that she has to go, at least not yet, so we are in the same boat of taking her about once an hour to ensure we reduce the number of accidents.

You know, the frustrating part isn't the actual training. I could handle accidents every once in a while if they were accidents! The problem is, the monster is FULLY aware of what he needs to do, and how to do it. He just won't.
