Tracy, for now I'm moderator. It's all new to Dave. He had a little problem yesterday and emailed me about it, but like I told him, it'll get easier, and we were all new to it once, too. Once he's comfortable, I'll turn it all over to him.

At least there was no dusting of snow this A.M.!

I would like to go back to bed and start this day over. I turned my alarm clock on last night, not realizing that the fiance had apparently changed the time it was set to go off, and woke up half an hour late this morning, and that has pretty much set the tone for the entire day...

Well, this day started with a mad rush at home to get to St. Francis for the wife's CT scan, which went efficiently enough; but why, for any reason, is there a need to be at the site 30 minutes early when all the information needed is already present in the various files, etc. I really could have used that extra 30 minutes of sleep....

Linda, when you get your electricity back (I'm making a speculative assertion that you were affected by the power outage), let us know how things are. If you were not affected, then let us know that, too. Sounds like something strange happened your way this morning.

Let's see if I can even type on this tiny little 'puter! Both computers in the office were on when the power left and I'm having some "issues" with both. But here I am on this laptop. Guess this will force me to use (and maybe learn) this one for more than looking. Hey, we're fine! I had finished most of a pot of coffee before whatever happened. I had a new book! Will tell you a gas dryer (with obviously an electric starter) doesn't work w/o power, ditto gas cooktop. Whatever caused this must have been a biggie cause it affected a widespread area.

Linda, it looks to me as if you have better luck typing on a laptop than do I; I blame my problems on "fat fingers". :-)

Hope your "issues" with the other computers are easily resolved, and that your power continues on without further interruption.

I saw on the news site that they were saying there was some sort of explosion reported this morning that they think may have been related? It must have messed with the power grids all over the North side as well, because I work up NE, and while we never completely LOST power, we had about 5 or 6 surges in the amount of about 15 minutes at about 830 or so this am...

For all MCBB junkies; the latest from Seth Davis. I like his recommendation concerning KU. :-)

I've heard rumors that some transformers exploded, but those aren't being acknowledged by Westar. It was around that 8:30 time when we lost power. By the time it came back on I was beginning to feel chilly -- nothing a sweater didn't fix, but I'm glad it came back when it did. I never realize how I depend on electricity until its gone. My granddaughters came here after school and they said their schools went to back-up generators. They both said that meant they gathered in a gym and in the case of the McCollum student listened to a book and the Wilbur student said they just talked with friends. I don't think either had a productive day at school. Must have been a nightmare for teachers, don't ya think!?

Hey, Vaughn, I liked those words about KU too! My son who lives in Boston called last Saturday when they were delivering a sound defeat to Boston College. He doesn't get to watch as many games as you and I -- those on ESPN and major stations but not every game. He had watched the Orange Bowl, then caught the Boston College game and seemed in hog heaven! ;-)

Boy, I hate to think of how long it is until we actually vote! Too much politics! We might ALL overdose. Seems the candidates will be chosen long enough in advnace we'll be sick of them by the time we actually go to the polls too. What a crazy way we do this. Does anyone see any possibilities the craziness will be changed in our lifetimes?

Linda, it is my opinion, FWIW, that the current system is not sustainable. I've a feeling that the long time between a candidate gaining the nomination (both parties) and Election Day will result in so much minutiae, combined with the "gotcha" style of what passes for journalism, that many potential voters will just be "turned off"; this, of course, leaves the possibility of the presidential election popular vote, which leads to the Electoral College vote, in the hands of an ever diminishing pool of voters.

How to solve it? Well, an idea borrowed from our friends "across the pond"; limit the Presidential election process to a short time, say three months (in Great Britain, the parliamentary elections leading to a new Prime Minister are limited to six weeks, IIRC). While I fully understand this may favor the incumbents and the establishment candidates, I think that it might also give a window of opportunity to those on the "outside" that the current long, drawn out and very expensive process does not.
